This result once again reflects that Thailand, Indonesia and Vietnam are still the leading football teams in the region, not only at the national team level, but also at the youth team level, including the U.17. In recent times, Thailand, Indonesia and Vietnam have regularly had representatives at many levels participating in the final round of Asian tournaments, while Malaysia, Singapore, and Myanmar have significantly weakened.
Currently, the 3 teams U.17 Vietnam, U.17 Thailand and Indonesia will have another competition in the final round taking place next year in Saudi Arabia, which is to compete for achievements in that tournament, to try to prove which football is developing better.

U.17 Indonesia won a ticket to the U.17 Asia with second place in Group G
U.17 Thailand excellently topped group D
At the 2023 Asian Cup held earlier this year, the Indonesian national team temporarily prevailed over the Vietnamese national team, when they entered the round of 16, while the Vietnamese team was eliminated right after the group stage. Even compared to the Thai team (who also entered the round of 16 at the 2023 Asian Cup), Indonesia made a better impression, because they faced stronger opponents (Japan, Iraq, Australia), and their progress was faster. Therefore, this more or less touched the pride of those interested in Vietnamese and Thai football. The Vietnamese and Thai football circles are determined to prove that they are not inferior to Indonesian football, and the best way to prove this is to compete well in international tournaments where their opponents are present.
Another interesting detail is that the Southeast Asian teams including U.17 Vietnam, Thailand and Indonesia are likely to face each other directly in the 2025 AFC U.17 Championship final round, as the teams are in different seed groups.
Evaluating the way youth football is developed among the three football backgrounds of Thailand, Indonesia and Vietnam, former Vice President of VFF Duong Vu Lam said: “I think Thailand is still the football background with the best youth planning. They develop both widely and deeply, bringing football into schools in the same way that Japan is developing youth football. Indonesia has recently included a number of naturalized players born abroad in the youth teams, similar to the way they are building the national team.
Regarding the youth teams of Vietnamese football, I think that VFF is still on the right track. The problem is that this track has not been implemented properly when it comes to clubs, because many clubs have financial difficulties, especially the teams in the first division, so they have not paid due attention to youth training. In addition, the youth teams of Vietnamese football have not made as much noise as in previous years because we currently do not have outstanding faces like Cong Phuong and Quang Hai in the most recent teams. However, this is a characteristic of small football teams. Young Vietnamese players still have potential if they are given more playing time and more international competition.
U.17 Vietnam also squeezed through the narrow door, winning a ticket to Saudi Arabia.
That means if the Vietnam U.17 team has good training sessions and competes a lot before the AFC U.17 Championship finals in April next year, we can completely cause a surprise in this tournament, and still be able to compete fairly with other youth teams from Southeast Asia, including Thailand and Indonesia.
