Abundant Tet apricot blossoms, good quality

Gardeners growing Tet apricot trees in Ho Chi Minh City are starting to get busy removing the zinc, picking the leaves, transporting... to the selling points in time to "show off" their products to Tet apricot customers.

Having just brought out to the sidewalk of Pham Van Dong Street (Thu Duc City) more than 30 Tet apricot trees of Thu Duc variety, Mr. Nguyen Van Duc, owner of Duc Thinh apricot garden, said that the quality of apricot trees this year is relatively stable, so the garden plans to supply about 120 trees of various types, a slight increase compared to last year.

The expected selling price is from 5 to 9 million VND/tree, including transportation within the city. In the vacant lot next door, the owner of the Ha Ba Tran apricot garden has also brought out hundreds of large and small apricot trees of all kinds for sale. In this apricot garden, many workers are also busy removing zinc and picking apricot leaves.

Meanwhile, Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Phuong, owner of Phuong Binh apricot garden (Thu Duc city), said that some trees have been calculated to bloom to serve customers who rent, buy early to play on New Year's Eve and ship to the North (mainly Hanoi).

"The cold weather in the North makes buds bloom slowly, so gardeners in the South have to pick leaves early and force the buds to grow green so that when they go to the North, they can compensate for the cold weather and the plants will bloom just in time for Tet," Mr. Phuong explained.

According to many gardeners, the quality of apricot blossoms this year is good and it is almost Tet so there is no need to worry much about the impact of the weather or the supply of apricot blossoms in Ho Chi Minh City. Furthermore, this year's purchasing power is likely to be slower than previous years, so the selling and rental prices at the beginning of the season are offered by many gardeners at a moderate level.

In addition, according to traders, the price of apricot blossoms in Ho Chi Minh City also depends more or less on the amount of apricot blossoms from the Southwest (mainly Ben Tre) and the Central region (mainly Binh Dinh) brought to Ho Chi Minh City. These two sources of supply only arrive in large quantities from the 20th of the lunar calendar onwards.

As a veteran in the Binh Dinh apricot tree business, Mr. Nguyen Anh Dung (An Nhon, Binh Dinh) said that this year the apricot tree supply in An Nhon - considered the capital of Binh Dinh apricot trees - is relatively stable, so the amount of apricot trees brought to Ho Chi Minh City by many gardeners and traders is expected to not decrease compared to previous years, the selling price may be stable as in previous years with a common price of 2 - 4 million VND/tree depending on size.

Increase sales of apricot blossoms through online channels

Many gardeners said they will promote the sale and rental of apricot blossoms through online channels such as building websites and livestreaming sales on social networking platforms (TikTok, Facebook...).

According to Mr. Nguyen Dinh - owner of Dinh Quyen apricot garden (Thu Duc City), the unit promotes the online channel by posting dozens of apricot trees for rent online with prices ranging from 6 - 40 million VND/tree, along with preferential costs, free shipping, and extremely attractive decoration packages.

Most grafted apricot trees are 1 - 2.5m high and 1 - 2m in diameter to suit all customers from private homes to companies, government agencies...

"There have been more than 20 customers renting apricot blossoms online, accounting for about 30% of the total number of customers, and double that of last year. The unit expects the next two peak weeks to increase sharply," said Mr. Dinh.
