Vietnamese blood vessels connect to the sea

I read these sentences many times in the article " The Blood Cells of the Fatherland " by author Dinh Vu Hoang Nguyen, every time I go to an island in the Southwest. I also believe that everyone has "grown up" spiritually when returning to the mainland, because they feel smaller, they feel they love their country more.

According to Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Bong, Political Commissar of the Navy, the Southwest Sea of the Fatherland borders three countries: Cambodia, Thailand, and Malaysia. This is a very important sea area, with strategic significance in terms of economy, politics, national defense, and security. Not only that, this sea area also has potential for fishing, aquaculture, tourism, minerals, oil and gas, etc.

Despite the state's investment, Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Bong still assessed that there are still many difficulties, especially on offshore islands or islands with harsh terrain and climate such as Tho Chau, Nam Du, Hon Chuoi, and Hon Khoai.

"We also witnessed with our own eyes the lives of the people on the island as well as the determination and bravery of the officers, soldiers, armed forces and other forces stationed there. The army and people on the island are very united, closely coordinated and helped each other wholeheartedly," said Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Bong, wishing to propose to the Party, the State, the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense to continue to take better care of the lives of the army and people on the island; gradually overcome difficult problems that need to be solved such as infrastructure, fresh water, electricity, healthcare and education.

"For fishermen, along with care and encouragement, we also assign tasks to the armed forces to encourage them to exploit aquatic products in accordance with the law, not to violate foreign waters, and to both fish and cultivate, to protect aquatic products long-term for future generations, and not to overfish. Currently, aquatic resources in some areas have been reduced," Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Bong said, expressing his hope that officers and soldiers will continue to be resilient and steadfast in the face of the storm, continuing to fulfill their assigned tasks, worthy of the trust and love of the people of the whole country.

On this voyage, everyone shared a sense of responsibility. As shared by Ms. Tran Kim Yen, Chairwoman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, every year, the Ministry of National Defense and the Navy create conditions for Ho Chi Minh City's officials and people to visit the islands in Truong Sa, the Southwest Sea and the DK platform. For her, each trip leaves many beautiful impressions. On the voyage to the Southwest Sea, each member of the delegation witnessed with their own eyes the development of the islands, the majesty of the country and, more importantly, saw the hard work of the officials, soldiers and fishermen who are performing a very sacred duty: protecting the sovereignty of the sea and islands of the Fatherland.

"We admire the forces on the island. It can be said that after each such trip, each delegate is the most active communicator for the people of Ho Chi Minh City, bringing the feelings and trust of the remote islands to the mainland. Then the people of Ho Chi Minh City send to the islands from very small projects: water filters, roofed vegetable gardens... to help officers, soldiers, and fishermen live more conveniently. The green covering the islands affirms that our homeland is beautiful everywhere, and shows that the responsibility to protect the sovereignty of the sea and islands belongs to each citizen," said Ms. Yen.

Since 2006, towards the islands and DK platforms in the country's sea, Ho Chi Minh City has established a fund "For Beloved Truong Sa - For the Frontline of the Fatherland" (later renamed "For the Homeland's Sea and Islands - For the Frontline of the Fatherland"). At that time, there were many delegations visiting officers, soldiers and people in Truong Sa island district. Since 2016, Ho Chi Minh City has organized delegations to visit and encourage officers, soldiers and people in the islands in the Southwest sea and the first delegation was organized with 60 delegates traveling by ship HQ 632; up to now, Ho Chi Minh City has organized 6 delegations, with more than 600 delegates attending.

According to Ms. Tran Thi Kim Yen, although not all people of Ho Chi Minh City have the opportunity to visit the remote coastal areas and islands of the country; they always show their affection and responsibility, one of which is to support this fund to support officers, soldiers and people in difficulty.

"There are benefactors who support a large amount of money, but we are very touched when there are retirees who save their pensions or students who save their living expenses to contribute," Ms. Yen said.

Over the past 6 years, the government and people of Ho Chi Minh City have built many projects for cadres, soldiers and people in the southwestern coastal region, such as freshwater tanks, vegetable gardens, concentrated livestock farms, radar station embankments, rainwater collection and reuse systems, water filters and many other equipment, machinery, means of transport, and essential necessities for daily life, with a total cost of more than 28 billion VND.

During this voyage alone, Ho Chi Minh City presented 3 concentrated farming and livestock areas on Nam Du, Ghenh Dau and Phu Quoc islands; presented the embankment of the Hon Doc radar station; presented 8 motorbikes to officers and soldiers on Nam Du, Hon Khoai, Hon Doc and Tho Chau islands; presented 2 rainwater collection and reuse systems, 2 mobile water tanks on Hon Chuoi and Tho Chau islands; and presented machinery, equipment, household items and cash to officers, soldiers and people on the islands. The total value of the works and gifts is over 4.5 billion VND.

Another special thing is that on each voyage, Ho Chi Minh City invites intellectuals, experts, and scientists to participate in research and advise the Ho Chi Minh City government on more practical projects to meet the needs of officers, soldiers, and people on the island.

Ms. Yen affirmed: "Everyone, in any position, from any angle, looks towards the sea and islands and contributes to making the islands stronger and more beautiful. Everyone understands and seeks peace for the country to develop." Through that, the Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City also hopes that the trip will spread and receive contributions and responses from people across the country.
