Previously, patient LTL (born in 1973, residing in Kien Giang) had undergone retroperitoneal laparoscopic surgery to remove part of the left kidney and was discharged from the hospital in a stable condition.
At around 4:00 a.m. on November 28, the patient had severe abdominal pain and was admitted to the Tho Chu Island infirmary with low blood pressure.
The infirmary quickly provided emergency care and remotely consulted with doctors at Military Hospital 175 via the Telemedicine system. Doctors diagnosed patient K. as having severe hemorrhagic shock.
The infirmary then administered IV fluids, vasopressors and hemostatic drugs to the patient, but his condition did not improve and instead became critical, requiring him to be taken to the mainland for intensive treatment.
Following instructions from the Ministry of National Defense, EC225 helicopter with registration number VN-8622 took off at 0:00 on November 29 and arrived at Tho Chu Island at 2:35 the same day. The helicopter carried Lieutenant Colonel Pham Ngoc Hoai, Deputy Director of the Southern Helicopter Company, and the emergency team of Military Hospital 175 led by Captain Nguyen The Nha.
The emergency team approached the patient in a conscious state, able to communicate, pale skin and mucous membranes, severe hemorrhagic shock, requiring oxygen, and severe abdominal distension.
After examination and assessment, the patient was immediately transferred to the plane and given additional blood and fresh plasma. At the same time, the emergency team also closely monitored and ensured stable vital signs throughout the flight.
