The Hanoi People's Procuracy has just completed the indictment to prosecute the defendant Vu Thi Thanh (born in 1988, in Nam Dinh) for the crimes of Fraudulent appropriation of property and Money laundering. In relation to the case, the People's Procuracy prosecuted Mr. Ngo Van Quyen (born in 1974) for the crime of Receiving property obtained by others through criminal acts.
According to the indictment, Thanh is unemployed and rents a house in Long Bien district. In January 2021, Thanh saw Ms. M. (born in 1984, living in Vinhome Riverside, Long Bien) posting a job looking for a housekeeper in a resident group. The defendant used the nickname "Thanh Vu" to text Ms. M. with the content introducing a woman named Van (from Nam Dinh), who previously worked as a housekeeper for Thanh's family for 3 years...
Believing that the information Thanh provided was true, Ms. M. agreed to hire Van as a maid. Then Thanh pretended to be Van and came to Ms. M.'s house to help with the housework from January to July 2021.

During her time working as a maid for Ms. M., Thanh saw that the owner was financially well-off, so she tried to steal money. Thanh made up a false story to tell Ms. M. that: Facebook Nick “Thanh Vu” was the son of the Chairman of Thuan Thanh Environmental Company, Thanh had a husband named Hung - a pilot. According to Thanh, Hung knew many project investors, so he was able to buy apartments at cheap prices.
And during her time as a maid, Ms. M. discovered that Thanh had stolen money from her family's altar, so she fired the maid. After she quit her job, Thanh often used the nickname "Thanh Vu" to text and chat with Ms. M. The naive woman did not know that she was chatting with the maid whom she had just fired.
At that time, Thanh went online to find projects selling apartments and sent all the information to Ms. M. and asked if Ms. M. wanted to buy apartments in the project, Thanh would buy them for her at a preferential price, much cheaper than the market price. Because she believed the information Thanh provided was true, Ms. M. agreed to buy the house with the purpose of selling it for profit. To avoid being detected, Thanh told Ms. M. to transfer the money to buy the house through the account of a person named Tham.
The indictment determined that from April 1, 2022 to October 26, 2022, Vu Thi Thanh committed fraud and appropriated more than 35 billion VND from Ms. M. in the form of buying apartments. After Ms. Tham's account received the money, Thanh told her to transfer the money to Thanh's bank account. Thanh used all the money she defrauded and appropriated from Ms. M. for various purposes.
In which, Thanh sent money to a transport company director to buy a dump truck; transferred 3.6 billion VND to a man asking him to buy land. To legalize and conceal the origin of the illegal money, Nguyen Thi Thanh also transferred 21 billion VND to defendant Ngo Van Quyen, director of a construction company, to contribute capital to invest in buying a stone crusher...
The director then used 14 billion VND to open 6 savings contracts at the bank. In July 2022, Mr. Quyen used the above 6 contracts as collateral at the bank to borrow 14 billion VND and transferred the above amount to a company to buy a stone crusher.
The investigation agency contacted Mr. Ngo Van Quyen to inform him that the 21 billion VND that Thanh transferred was money that Thanh had obtained through crime, and requested that the deposits at the bank not be settled. However, Mr. Quyen later settled the entire amount.
On March 6, 2023, Thanh surrendered to the police. On August 30, 2024, Mr. Quyen was temporarily detained by the investigation agency.
