Entering the final match against opponent Rifqi Fitriadi (Indonesia, ATP rank 727), Ly Hoang Nam lost 2 sets (4-6, 1-6). This made Hoang Nam unable to defend the gold medal from the previous tournament and missed the opportunity to set a record of 3 consecutive SEA Games gold medals.

Ly Hoang Nam had stomach problems before the 2-0 victory over opponent Bun Kenny (Cambodia) in the semi-finals.

This made the number 1 Vietnamese tennis player unexpectedly lose in the final. Because this Indonesian opponent had lost to Hoang Nam in the Davis Cup men's doubles event in early 2023.

Hoang Nam lost to the world's 727th ranked player in the men's singles final of SEA Games 32.

On today's competition day, the final match was originally scheduled for 9am but was repeatedly postponed to 11pm and 2pm. It was thought that the postponement would give Hoang Nam more time to recover, but Nam still lost 2-0 and only won the silver medal.

To reach the final, Ly Hoang Nam showed his superiority over his opponents when he defeated Vittaya Rasavady (Laos) 2-0 in the round of 16, Anthony Susanto (Indonesia) 2-0 in the quarter-finals and Kenny Bun of host Cambodia 2-0.

At the 32nd SEA Games, the Vietnamese tennis team won the right to play in 2 finals (men's singles, men's team) but lost both and won 2 silver medals.

In addition, the Vietnamese tennis team also won 3 bronze medals in the men's doubles, singles and women's doubles. This is considered a step back for Vietnamese tennis in this SEA Games when the previous tournament won at least 1 gold (1 gold, 2 silver and 3 bronze).
