Vietnam national team gathers for the first time in 2025 on March 11
According to the plan, the Vietnamese team will begin training from March 11 in Binh Duong. Coach Kim Sang-sik and his team will have 1 week to prepare for the first match in 2025. At 7:30 p.m. on March 19, the Vietnamese team will play an international friendly match with the Cambodian team. This is also a practice match for the match with the Lao team, in the opening match of the final qualifying round of the 2027 Asian Cup, taking place at 7:30 p.m. on March 25.
Both matches of the Vietnam team during the FIFA Days in March were held at Binh Duong Stadium (home of Binh Duong Club in V-League).
If you cannot come to Binh Duong Stadium to watch the Vietnam team compete, fans can also watch the live broadcast via FPT Play platforms.
Tickets for the two matches of the Vietnam team have been on sale since the evening of March 9.
On March 6, coach Kim Sang-sik officially announced the list of 26 players selected for the matches during the FIFA Days in March. Basically, the key players on the list are still the players who won the AFF Cup 2024 with the Vietnamese team. Among them, the regrettable absences include striker Nguyen Xuan Son, Nguyen Van Toan and defender Ho Tan Tai. All three players are still in the recovery phase of their injuries. In addition, the team also witnessed the return of some names such as Vo Hoang Minh Khoa (Binh Duong Club), Tran Bao Toan (HAGL), Nguyen Thai Son (Thanh Hoa Club) and Trieu Viet Hung (Hai Phong Club).
The only new player on the list is Pham Ly Duc (HAGL Club). This 1.82 m tall player is considered a promising young central defender and has shown a lot of progress when he was trusted to play in all matches of the mountain town team in V-League 1 season 2024-2025.
Ly Duc was born in 2003, the same age as young players in the Vietnam national team such as Bui Vi Hao, Khuat Van Khang, Nguyen Thai Son - factors expected to play an important role in the Vietnam U.22 team's lineup for the 2025 U.23 Asian qualifiers and the 33rd SEA Games. Before the team's gathering (expected on March 11), Ly Duc scored a beautiful goal in the match where HAGL drew with host Thanh Hoa in round 16 of the V-League on March 9.
Goalkeeper Nguyen Filip was called up but due to family reasons, he asked to be absent this time. After receiving the information, coach Kim Sang-sik decided to call goalkeeper Tran Trung Kien from the Vietnam U.22 team to replace him. Tran Trung Kien was born in 2003, is 1.91 m tall, is one of the promising young faces, and was also part of the Vietnam team that won the AFF Cup 2024.
