Decision to abolish Decision 22 (dated August 11, 2022) on bonus levels for coaches and athletes achieving achievements at sports congresses and tournaments at all levels. |
Previously, Decision 22/2022 stipulated the reward levels for athletes and coaches with achievements as follows: For the National Sports Festival, the City will reward gold medalists with 15 million VND/medal, silver medalists with 9 million VND, bronze medalists with 6 million VND; breaking records will be rewarded with an additional 6 million VND.
At the Mekong Delta sports festivals, the rewards for gold, silver and bronze medals are 1 million VND, 800,000 VND and 600,000 VND respectively. National level awards range from 2 - 10 million VND (gold medal), 1.2 - 6 million VND (silver), 800,000 - 4 million VND (bronze). Sports competitions in Can Tho City and at district and commune levels have lower rewards according to the ratio...
However, by December 2024, the Department of Justice of Can Tho City had reported on the results of its self-inspection of legal documents issued by the City People's Committee. Accordingly, the Department of Justice stated that in the case of coaches and athletes of the city achieving achievements at national sports congresses and championships, the Chairman of the City People's Committee has the authority to decide on the bonus level according to the provisions of law. The City People's Committee does not have the authority to issue legal documents to stipulate the bonus level in the above case.
Therefore, the Department of Justice proposed that the People's Committee of Can Tho City assign the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism - the agency that advised on the issuance of Decision 22 - to advise on the abolition of Decision 22/2022.
In January 2025, Mr. Nguyen Thuc Hien - Vice Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee directed relevant departments to propose measures to overcome the consequences, especially the bonus payment from August 2022 to 2024. At the same time, the City People's Committee requested to consider the responsibility of individuals and groups that advised on the issuance of Decision 22.
According to the report of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Can Tho, from August 2022 to 2024, the City sent 600 coaches and 3,041 athletes to participate in 248 national and regional sports tournaments in the Mekong Delta, winning 1,904 medals of all kinds. Of which, at national sports tournaments, Can Tho athletes won 1,476 medals of all kinds ( 413 gold medals, 429 silver medals and 634 bronze medals).
Pursuant to Decision 22/2022, Can Tho City budget has spent a total of more than 10 billion VND on rewards .
