(Dan Tri) - The achievement of being in the top 10 at the 10th National Phu Dong Sports Festival continues to affirm the efforts and attention of the Long An province education sector in physical training for students.
Long An Provincial People's Committee has just held a ceremony to summarize and reward athletes and coaches who achieved achievements in the 10th National Phu Dong Sports Festival in 2024.
Receiving a certificate of merit from the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Nguyen Thi Huong (former student of class 12A7, Vinh Hung High School) expressed her joy. At the recent Phu Dong Sports Festival, the female student achieved 3 Gold Medals and 1 Bronze Medal in athletics.
"I didn't think I could achieve this and I am very happy and grateful to receive the attention and encouragement from the provincial leaders and teachers. This helps me to be determined to pursue the profession to become a physical education teacher, continuing to inspire children," Huong expressed.
Through physical education classes since primary school, Truong Thi Cam Ly (class 12A1, Hung Dien B Secondary and High School) also loved and practiced athletics since grade 5. According to the female student, each physical education class at school helped her to satisfy her passion. The 11th grade female student also "reached the finish line" with 3 Gold Medals in athletics at the 10th National Phu Dong Sports Festival.
"I find physical education classes and sports competitions very useful for students, helping them to exercise and have fun after school. At school, students learn many subjects such as athletics, volleyball, badminton, soccer...", Cam Ly said.
The National Phu Dong Sports Festival is a national student sports festival, held every four years. This year, Long An delegation participated with 11 sports, 305 students and 40 coaches.
As a result, Long An delegation won 129 medals including 35 Gold Medals, 32 Silver Medals, 62 Bronze Medals. Long An ranked 9/63 provinces and cities by medals; ranked 13/63 provinces and cities by points (1,972 points).
The above results continue the province’s achievements in the top 10 medal rankings. In the previous two Sports Festivals in 2012 and 2016, Long An students ranked 8th and 7th nationwide, respectively.
After 10 National Phu Dong Sports Festivals, the achievements of Long An students in terms of medals and rankings have been increasingly stable and improved, affirming the quality of the school sports movement is developing steadily and sustainably.
The representative of the Department of Education and Training of Long An province said that in recent years, physical education has always been focused on by the education sector of Long An province in order to continue to maintain and promote the campaign "All people exercise following the example of great Uncle Ho"; carry out the tasks of physical education, sports activities and school health according to the guidance of the Ministry of Education and Training.
At the same time, these activities aim to develop the sports movement in schools to improve health and physical fitness, contributing to comprehensive education and creating a healthy playground for students.
Every year, the Department of Education and Training has directed the Departments of Education and Training and affiliated educational institutions to fully implement the physical education program for students. Thereby, it has created a useful playground, improved health, encouraged students to actively practice and participate in physical education activities, contributing to improving the quality of comprehensive education.
Schools use music to incorporate into their mid-day physical education exercises to keep students engaged, and also organize many traditional sports competitions.
In 2024, the education sector organized the first Long An Provincial Lottery Cup for boys and girls volleyball tournaments for middle school students, participated in the National Phu Dong Sports Festival...
Regularly organizing and participating in sports tournaments also contributes to evaluating physical education and sports activities in schools. Through this, the tournament aims to discover, supplement and foster students' sports talents, and train young talents for the province and the country.
