On June 29, Vice Admiral Jeffrey Hughes, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Supreme Allied Command of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), said that the military alliance is working to strengthen its defense capabilities and deter potential Russian aggression in the Black Sea and Baltic Sea regions.

The NATO commander also confirmed that the alliance has many options to counter Russian threats in the Baltic Sea region after Sweden and Finland joined NATO.
The Black Sea “is a significant complex issue that NATO is dealing with,” Hughes said.
Previously, NATO conducted large-scale naval exercise BALTOPS 24 in the Baltic Sea from June 7-20 with the participation of about 9,000 soldiers and more than 80 aircraft representing at least 20 member countries in the alliance.
The exercise is aimed at practicing NATO member states' ability to respond to potential crises and ensure freedom of navigation and security in the Baltic Sea region.
Meanwhile, according to TASS News Agency, in a statement on June 28, the Russian Defense Ministry noted the recent "increased intensity of activity" of US drones in the Black Sea, accusing them of "reconnaissance and targeting missions to help precision weapons supplied by Western countries to the Ukrainian military attack Russian facilities."
“It shows the growing involvement of the United States and other NATO countries in the conflict in Ukraine,” the Russian Defense Ministry said.
