On April 4, the Vietnam Food Association (VFA), the Financial and Monetary Market Magazine and the Vietnam Investment News Page jointly organized the Workshop "Positioning Vietnamese rice in the new era" with the participation of about 400 enterprises in the rice, fertilizer, logistics, cooperatives and farmers. Also attending were representatives of many central ministries, branches, Can Tho city and provinces in the Mekong Delta (MD)...
In his welcoming speech, Vice Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee Nguyen Ngoc He emphasized that the rice industry in the Mekong Delta has achieved many great achievements in recent times, contributing 50% of rice output and more than 90% of rice export output, and is a region that ensures national food security. Mr. Nguyen Ngoc He hopes that experts and delegates attending the conference will have ideas to help the rice industry continuously develop.

Regarding credit support, Mr. Tran Quoc Ha, Acting Director of the State Bank of Vietnam Region 14 (with 183 commercial bank branches in Can Tho city and the provinces of Vinh Long, Hau Giang, Soc Trang and Bac Lieu) said: As of the end of December 2024, outstanding credit for the rice industry was VND 121,000 billion, accounting for 55% of outstanding credit for rice nationwide, strongly supporting the development of the rice industry.
In their presentations and discussions at the workshop, delegates emphasized that the Government is promoting the implementation of the Project on sustainable development of 1 million hectares of high-quality and low-emission rice cultivation associated with green growth in the Mekong Delta, in addition to the goal of increasing the value of rice grains and income for farmers, it also affirms the country's position as a producer of high-quality rice, the best rice in the world.

Regarding the repositioning of Vietnamese rice in the international market, Dr. Vo Tri Thanh, Director of the Institute for Brand and Competitiveness Strategy Research, commented: The Government's proposal of a program of 1 million hectares of high-quality, low-emission rice has sent the message that Vietnam is the first country in the world to produce high-quality, low-emission rice on a large scale, and to market it strongly to the high-end market.
According to Mr. Nguyen Anh Phong, Deputy Director of the Institute of Agricultural and Environmental Policy and Strategy (Ministry of Agriculture and Environment), in addition to gradually dominating traditional markets such as the Philippines and Africa thanks to the difference in quality and price compared to other exporting countries, Vietnamese enterprises have changed their production practices, researching and expanding rice export markets across Asia, Africa (18%), the Middle East (2%), Europe, America and Oceania (4%). Of which, Asia is still the key market, accounting for about 72% of total exports.
Mr. Do Ha Nam, Chairman of VFA, Chairman of the Board of Directors and General Director of Intimex Group, proposed: To continue improving quality, diversifying products, and creating a difference in the world market, VFA recommends continuing to support policies and capital, especially for the development of high-quality rice varieties; supporting quick VAT refunds; supporting information to expand export markets; speeding up the investment progress in building Cai Cui port and upgrading Quan Chanh Bo canal in the Mekong Delta to facilitate exports.
At the same time, localities continue to plan and build specialized areas, attract investment in rice processing... contributing to the rice industry in particular and agriculture in general, creating one of the important foundations for us to aim for the goal of developing a strong and prosperous country in the era of national development.
