According to the VNA correspondent in New York, at the meeting, Deputy Secretary General Amandeep Singh Gill sincerely thanked the attention and support of the Delegation and relevant agencies of Vietnam for the success of his working trip to Hanoi in January 2024; expressed his honor to have in-depth and useful meetings and exchanges with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and leaders of a number of ministries, departments, sectors as well as leading technology experts of Vietnam.
Appreciating the vision and breakthrough policies, the UN Deputy Secretary-General expressed his impression of Vietnam's efforts in responding to challenges and seizing opportunities to achieve great strides in innovation, digital transformation, artificial intelligence (AI) and ensuring cyber security, including the active participation and contribution of the private sector, especially large technology enterprises such as Viettel, FPT, VinAI, etc.
Considering that Vietnam's AI research and application centers are among the top 20 in the world outside China, with a strong team of talented and enthusiastic technology experts, Mr. Amandeep Singh Gill affirmed that Vietnam is not only a model for technology development but also has the potential to become an important cooperation axis to help improve AI capacity for developing countries. The UN leader expressed his hope that Vietnam will continue to play an active role in the mechanisms of the Scientific Experts Group and the AI Governance Dialogue of the world's largest multilateral organization.
Sharing the opinions of the UN Deputy Secretary-General, Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang emphasized that Vietnam has identified science, technology and innovation as a strategic choice to achieve high double-digit growth in the coming years, aiming to become a modern industrialized country by 2030 and a high-income country by 2045. The Ambassador emphasized that the newly issued Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW on science, technology, innovation and digital transformation development is a breakthrough to achieve this aspiration, including the establishment of the Central Steering Committee on science, technology, innovation and national digital transformation development, with General Secretary To Lam as Head of the Steering Committee and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh as Deputy Head of the Steering Committee.
Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang affirmed that Vietnam is ready to share experiences and listen to the advice of the UN and the Deputy Secretary-General; supports the idea of making Vietnam a cooperation axis on digital transformation and AI; hopes that the UN will promote the realization of this idea. Vietnam is ready to promote its role and make more active contributions to important events and discussions of the UN on digital transformation and AI governance. On this occasion, the Head of the Vietnamese Delegation reiterated the invitation to the Secretary-General and Deputy Secretary-General to attend the signing ceremony of the UN Convention on Cybercrime (Hanoi Convention) held in Hanoi in 2025.
