Going from Nghia Lo to Mu Cang Chai town (Yen Bai), if you see on the left side of the road a village of pretty stilt houses overlooking a large field, then that is a Thai village, long known as Thai village.
This is a favorite destination for many tourists when coming to Mu Cang Chai. In the early 2010s, in Thai village, people started to cooperate with travel agencies to open accommodation services. Since then, the tourism - service industry has been formed and developed in Thai village.
A small community of Thai people living in an area with a majority of Mong people creates the attraction and cultural uniqueness of the Thai village. Coming here, visitors can immerse themselves in the Thai ethnic culture, relaxing in front of the terraced fields stretching across the winding mountain slopes. During the flood season, the fields become giant mirrors reflecting the clouds and sky. During the ripe rice season, the fields become winding golden silk strips, creating waves stretching to the horizon.
When arriving here, visitors need to cross the district center bridge, towards Che Tao commune, then turn left and go about 1km to reach Thai village. Some visitors who have been here many times say that the village is beautiful in any season, however, the best time to go is from September to November. That is the time when Mu Cang Chai enters the golden season with terraced fields of ripe rice, painting a brilliant natural picture across a corner of the sky.
But at other times, Mu Cang Chai in general and Thai village in particular still have unique beauty. May and June, the rainy season, is when Thai village terraced fields change into a new coat. Rainwater trickles down to the fields. This is the time when Thai village terraced fields are covered in the green of newly planted young rice.
Earlier, around April, is the time when the highland people call it the flooding season. This is the time when streams, rivers, and terraced fields in the Northwest region such as Sa Pa, Mu Cang Chai... begin to be flooded after heavy rains. The flooding season has a very unique beauty, when the terraced fields are filled with water like giant mirrors, reflecting the clouds, mountains and villages. At this time, farmers often plow the land, preparing for the new rice crop.
The Northwest is considered a land of majestic natural scenery that few places in Vietnam can compare to, but it is also an obstacle for those who are weak drivers or are afraid of facing the winding mountains, passes, and winding roads, uphill and downhill. However, the distance to Thai village is probably an exception. Located right in the center of Mu Cang Chai town, so it is easy to travel to Thai village.
If you are not afraid of long roads and steep passes, you can drive yourself. The journey to Thai village by private car promises to bring many emotions and very "chill" scenes suddenly appearing on both sides of the road, allowing check-in enthusiasts to freely take photos.
