A breath of fresh air from Coach Troussier

After many months of actively observing all the V-League pitches, Coach Troussier made a decision, true to the spirit he once declared: "I do not close the door to any player. As a head coach, I have to predict the performance of the players on the field. I want to give equal opportunities to the players". Accordingly, the training session of the Vietnamese team (from September 1 to 12) continues to witness the appearance of many new faces, alongside experienced veterans.

N "NEW WINDS"

With the goal of building the optimal force for the Vietnamese team towards the second qualifying round of the 2026 World Cup in Asia, Coach Troussier has given opportunities to many new faces. The newly announced list has up to 9 names that have never been called up to the national team since the "White Witch" returned to Vietnamese football, including: goalkeeper Pham Van Phong, Nguyen Duc Chien, Duong Van Hao (Viettel Club), Nguyen Huu Son, Trieu Viet Hung, Pham Trung Hieu (Hai Phong Club), Pham Van Luan (Hanoi Police Club), Hoang Thai Binh (Thanh Hoa Club), Vu Quang Nam (Ha Tinh Club).

Of the 9 players mentioned above, most are still quite unfamiliar to fans. While Van Phong, Duc Chien, and Viet Hung were given opportunities by coach Park Hang-seo when he was still in charge, the remaining 6 players are breathing the air of the Vietnamese national team for the first time. However, the common point of most of these new players is that they have played a lot in the domestic league and have had stable performance in the club's shirt.

In particular, Duong Van Hao is one of the pillars of U.19 Vietnam, creating a historic achievement when winning the right to participate in the U.20 World Cup 2017. Nguyen Duc Chien is also a very notable face. The midfielder of Viettel Club has a good physique, plays passionately and is not afraid of collisions. Although playing in the position of a defensive midfielder, Duc Chien has shined many times at important moments, scoring a total of 9 goals for Viettel Club last season.

THE RETURN OF THE VETERANS AND THE REGRET ABSENCE

This training session of the Vietnamese national team welcomes the return of Do Hung Dung. In the training session in June, the midfielder born in 1993 did not participate due to injury. Veteran striker Nguyen Van Quyet was also called up by coach Troussier, after being absent from the most recent training session due to being suspended for 8 matches in domestic tournaments. Despite being banned from playing many matches, the 32-year-old striker of Hanoi FC is still the most effective domestic striker in V-League 2023, with 9 goals after 14 matches.

Two former HAGL stars, Nguyen Cong Phuong (Yokohama Club, Japan) and Nguyen Van Toan (Seoul E-land Club, Korea), although not playing much abroad, were still "specially selected" by coach Troussier. He explained: "I think there are no Vietnamese players who are actually playing abroad. In fact, Vietnamese strikers in V-League 2023 only score an average of 2 to 3 goals. We are skeptical about Cong Phuong or Van Toan, but Tien Linh and Thanh Binh are not in good form, so it is too early to dismiss Cong Phuong and Van Toan. Their level is still better than many main players in V-League and I don't want to lose them."

In the goalkeeper position, Dang Van Lam is still rated the highest. Van Lam's opponent - Filip Nguyen is very eager to wear the Vietnamese national team shirt but has not completed the naturalization process. Coach Troussier also expressed excitement and will wait for the overseas Vietnamese goalkeeper of the Hanoi Police Club in the next training session. Goalkeeper Tran Nguyen Manh was named in the previous two training sessions and also played well for Nam Dinh Club in V-League 2023 but was not called. In addition, familiar faces such as Vu Van Thanh, Nguyen Phong Hong Duy, Nguyen Thanh Chung, Nguyen Hai Huy were also absent.

During this FIFA Days training session, the Vietnamese team will have an international friendly match against the Palestinian team at Thien Truong Stadium on September 11.
