On the morning of August 16, the Ho Chi Minh City Music Association held the opening ceremony of the first Ho Chi Minh City Music Festival series of activities to celebrate Vietnam Music Day on September 3. This is the first time the Ho Chi Minh City Music Association has organized a Music Festival .

Since Xuan Mai, children's music has fallen into decline.

Musician Nguyen Quoc Dong pointed out the current situation where many musicians write for children but they are not widely popularized and do not have a strong influence. The reason is that they do not have enough finances to produce their own songs to release on platforms.

He also warned about the current situation of children singing adult music, causing children's songs to be forgotten, causing a serious shortage of new music on the market, and students only learn old music works at school.

Musician Nguyen Van Chung commented that after the golden age represented by Xuan Mai, children's music fell into decline and gloom, and new children's songs that truly entered children's lives no longer existed.

"The proliferation of game shows and music competitions exclusively for children with singing talent, where children are chosen or are chosen to sing and perform difficult, highly technical, and complex songs for adults to score, evaluate, and other adults to watch.

Besides the positive aspects where children gain experience in handling songs and performing on stage like professional artists, there are many negative aspects and sad stories: children have to sing songs whose content or lyrics they do not understand, children have to sing songs that are much older than their age and thinking" - Mr. Chung expressed his opinion.

Musician Tran Huu Bich - former deputy head of the music department, Ho Chi Minh City Television - believes that writing songs for children should be short, with simple melodies, easy to remember, and the pitch should not exceed an octave 9.

He suggested that it would be even better if Vietnamese materials were exploited. "The trend of updating new things is inevitable, but it needs to be moderate, suitable for the content and age. The content must be related to life, the lyrics must be clear, simple, easy to understand, and poetic, the better" - musician Tran Huu Bich emphasized.

To have more good children's music compositions, Mr. Chung proposed: "Increase investment capital for composing and producing children's music; increase many campaigns for composing children's music but with diverse themes and topics; increase programs to popularize new children's songs;

Increase the number of children's programs produced and recorded, broadcast on radio, television, online platforms, digital music, and the internet; increase the number of awards to honor new children's songs.

Investing in children's music, youth

The organizing committee of the Children's Music scientific conference in Ho Chi Minh City received more than 20 presentations from musicians, artists, researchers...

The presentations focused on the current state of music performance activities for children; identifying the value in works written for children; impacts on music for children; solutions for composing, organizing performances, music education and training for children...

Mr. Nguyen Quang Vinh - Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City Music Association - said that the Ho Chi Minh City Music Association and many other units are very interested in the music sector for children.

The musician said: "In the past 10 years, the Ho Chi Minh City Music Association has focused on investing in children's and youth music. Every year, about 30 - 50 new children's songs are released.

The music association invests in composers, pays royalties, and invests in background music. Therefore, people can use it for free, without having to pay royalties.

To spread children's music, the Ho Chi Minh City Music Association has built an electronic children's music library. These songs are posted on the Ho Chi Minh City Music Association's YouTube channel (children's music, pink age). Currently, this YouTube channel has about 400 new children's songs from the investment of the Music Association."

Mr. Nguyen Quang Vinh emphasized that this YouTube page allows free use of background music and high-quality beats because the Music Association has paid the copyright.

From August 30 to September 3, the Ho Chi Minh City Music Association broadcasts music programs with the themes My Childhood, Singing with Youth, Praising the People's Police Soldiers, Echoing Uncle Ho's Words, Singing About the Common Home on YouTube and Facebook.
