On the afternoon of December 14, the final round of the 1st National Electronic Flute Festival 2024 took place at Ho Chi Minh City College of Culture and Arts.

The festival is organized by the Ho Chi Minh City Music Association in collaboration with Ho Chi Minh City College of Culture and Arts, and Viet Trang Music Company Limited.

New playground for electronic flute lovers

Musician Nguyen Quang Vinh - Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City Music Association and head of the organizing committee - said that the preliminary round of the 2024 National Electronic Flute Festival was held online, attracting more than 50 contestants from all over the country to participate.

Candidates come from Hanoi, Lao Cai, Cao Bang, Thanh Hoa, Hung Yen, Thai Binh, Nghe An, Nam Dinh, Da Nang, Kon Tum, Gia Lai, Dak Lak, Dong Nai, Binh Thuan, An Giang, Can Tho... and Ho Chi Minh City.

The judges selected the 10 best candidates to enter the final ranking round. However, one candidate withdrew due to personal reasons.

In the final round, each contestant will perform two pieces, including one Vietnamese song and one song of their choice.

Familiar songs such as: Chiec Khan Pieu, Em oi Ha Noi pho, Bai ca dat phuong Nam, Sao troi lam gio… seem to be given a new look when combined with electronic flutes and trumpets. Listeners seem to be more attracted by this combination.

Bringing Electronic Flute to More People

The final round judges included Associate Professor, PhD, music theorist Nguyen Thi My Liem - Vice President of the Ho Chi Minh City Music Association; musician Nguyen Duc Trung - Vice President of the Ho Chi Minh City Music Association and musician Vo Hoai Phuc.

"Electronic flute is becoming more and more popular, attracting the attention of many people. The profound and creative melodies performed at the festival not only demonstrate the talent of the contestants but also contribute to inspiring those who are passionate about this art form" - musician Nguyen Quang Vinh shared.

According to the organizers, an electronic flute (or electronic trumpet) is a digital wind instrument (also known as a wind synthesizer) that provides the sounds of many different instruments in one dynamic controller.

Electronic flutes were invented in the 1960s and 1970s but were only recently introduced to Vietnam.

The 1st National Electronic Flute Festival 2024 creates a healthy and useful playground for electronic flute lovers across the country.
