The VCSF 2024 Forum is an opportunity for the business community to continue to join hands to affirm their belief and efforts in the process of realizing the goal of bringing net emissions to "0" by 2050.
On September 10, in Hanoi, the 11th Vietnam Sustainable Business Forum (VCSF) was held with the theme "Net Zero 2050: Building trust - Creating transformation".
VCSF continues to affirm its position as the leading dialogue platform of the business community at the national scale on sustainable development in Vietnam, organized annually by the Vietnam Federation of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), with the core being the Vietnam Business Council for Sustainable Development (VBCSD) since 2014.
Throughout the two parallel seminars in the morning and the plenary session in the afternoon of the same day, the Forum received the attention and participation of over 400 delegates attending in person, thousands of online views, along with lively sharing and discussions with nearly 30 prestigious speakers on contents that are not only of strategic significance but also very practical to promote businesses to realize sustainable development goals, as well as join hands towards the goal of achieving net zero emissions by 2050 (Net Zero 2050).

Opening the Forum's Plenary Session, VCCI Chairman Pham Tan Cong said: "When deciding to choose the theme 'Net Zero 2050: Building trust - Creating transformation' for VCSF this year, we, VCCI-VBCSD, hope that the Forum will be an opportunity for the business community to continue to join hands to affirm the trust and efforts of businesses in the process of realizing the goal of bringing net emissions to '0' by 2050.
That belief is being nurtured and thereby creating strong impulses for synchronous transformation: transformation in perception; transformation in thinking and transformation in action. We also clearly understand and believe that the efforts of the business community will always receive guidance, companionship and joint support from the entire political system."
Representing the voice of the business community, sharing at the Plenary Session, Mr. Binu Jacob, General Director of Nestlé Vietnam, Co-Chairman of VBCSD emphasized that sustainability should be viewed as a driving force for value creation, not a burden for businesses. In the green transformation process, of course, there are still many bottlenecks and challenges.
"One of the bottlenecks is connecting the sustainability story with the core drivers in making decisions about choosing a brand or trademark. Businesses need to change their approach and connect with consumers so that sustainable initiatives can truly become a driving force for value creation. In addition, businesses need to strengthen multi-stakeholder cooperation through dialogue platforms such as the VCSF Forum to effectively promote the green transformation process towards realizing the Net Zero commitment," Mr. Binu Jacob pointed out.
Approaching the green transformation journey through promoting diversity, inclusion and increasing the participation of female business leaders, Ms. Milly Cheng, General Director of Coca-Cola Vietnam, said that the sustainable development strategy "Choose today - Shape the future" with 3 main pillars including products, planet and people is the compass for the company's long-term development orientations.
With a journey of nearly 10 years of persistent community support through the EkoCenter project, Coca-Cola Vietnam has continuously innovated to create advanced and strong communities in the digital age through STEAM education programs, training on e-commerce skills, solutions to promote circular economy as well as combat climate change at Community Support Centers nationwide.

In his closing speech at the Forum, Mr. Nguyen Quang Vinh, Vice President of VCCI and President of VBCSD, once again emphasized that the Net Zero goal is a very urgent goal that requires the joint efforts of all parties to promote synchronous transformation. Enterprises are not only a factor contributing to the success of sustainable development goals but also benefit from the results of brand reputation and long-term growth from the sustainable development strategy.
At the same time, Mr. Vinh also recommended that the business community proactively research, build and implement sustainable development integrating the ESG model in general, and apply the Corporate Sustainability Index (CSI) in particular to enhance the competitiveness of businesses in the long term. On this occasion, Mr. Vinh also launched and called on businesses, especially VBCSD members, to join hands to support the community to overcome the severe damage caused by super typhoon Yagi.
Within the framework of the Forum, delegates were shared with many updated information from representatives of the Ministry of Planning and Investment, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development on contents related to updating green growth orientations to promote green transformation, the progress of implementing Vietnam's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), important policies on reducing greenhouse gas emissions domestically and internationally to adapt to climate change; and strategies to build a low-emission agricultural sector.
From the international partners, representatives of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) also brought to the Forum useful information from an international perspective on the movement trends of the global business community on the green transformation journey, and recommendations on how businesses can contribute more effectively to efforts to create a synchronous transformation towards the Net Zero goal.
