Ministry of Construction issues roadmap for deploying biometric technology and VNeID platform at airports
The report stated that the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam presided over and coordinated with the Information Technology Center to organize a working session with the Vietnam Airports Corporation (ACV), the Department of Administrative Police for Social Order (C06), the Immigration Department (A08), Van Don International Airport, and Vietnamese airlines to implement the conclusions of the Working Group implementing Project 06.
Based on the opinions of agencies and units, the Ministry of Construction has proposed a roadmap for implementing the application of biometric technology and the VNeID platform at airports.
Specific roadmap for implementing biometric applications
Specifically, at Tan Son Nhat International Airport, the implementation is expected to be completed from April to June 2025, including the application of the entire biometric process at Terminal T3 as soon as it is put into operation.
At Noi Bai International Airport, it is expected to be completed from March to September 2025, in which Vietnam Airports Corporation (ACV) will carry out investment procedures from March 2025.
It is known that ACV is currently implementing investment procedures, equipment, and solutions to apply biometric authentication technology at Phu Bai, Cat Bi, Dien Bien, and Long Thanh airports.
According to the Civil Aviation Authority, to carry out the steps to authenticate passengers on the entire flight, passengers need to have a chip-embedded citizen identification card (CCCD), PNR booking code and agree to share personal data and facial recognition information.
At the first touch point, the check-in counter must be equipped with a chip-based CCCD reader and a facial recognition device. At the second touch point, the security control area, it must be equipped with an Automated Boarding Area Access Gate (ABAAG - automatic boarding area control system).
The third touch point is the passenger boarding area, which needs to be equipped with an Automated Self Boarding Gate (ASBG) with integrated biometrics. The process of identifying passengers using biometric authentication must comply with the law on personal data protection.
