Au Co
In legends, Au Co was a beautiful fairy who lived on high mountains. And her marriage to Lac Long Quan, giving birth to 100 children, turned the Vietnamese people into the descendants of the Dragon and the Fairy.
Au Co (2825–2520 BC) is a character in Vietnamese legend. Along with the great legends about Lac Long Quan, Au Co is considered the ancestor of the Vietnamese people. Her story with Lac Long Quan is recorded as a legend and myth in the first chapter of Linh Nam Chich Quai. This legend was first considered as official history and recorded as a chronicle in Dai Viet Su Ky Toan Thu during the Later Le Dynasty, but was not included in the older history book Dai Viet Su Luoc during the Tran Dynasty.

According to the legend of the Dragon's Descendants, King Lac Long Quan, a descendant of the Dragon, married Fairy Au Co. Lac Long Quan and Au Co were both noble gods who gave birth to a sac containing a hundred eggs, which hatched into a hundred children.
One day, Lac Long Quan felt that he could not live on land forever, so he said goodbye to Au Co and took his fifty children to the sea, she took her fifty children to the mountains. The eldest son followed Au Co to become king, took the title Hung Vuong, established the capital in Phong Chau, and named the country Van Lang. For more than ten generations, the kings all took the title Hung Vuong. Because of this story, when referring to their origins, Vietnamese people often call themselves descendants of the Dragon and Fairy.
The ancient Vietnamese history book Dai Viet Su Ky Toan Thu also recorded a similar legend, but omitted the element of a hundred eggs in a sac, and only mentioned Au Co and Lac Long Quan giving birth to a hundred children.
