Beautiful memories with the Youth Union

“Block Youth Union” is the name that we - cadres and members of the Youth Union branches and grassroots Youth Unions of provincial agencies - call our superior Youth Union organization: “Block Youth Union of Provincial Agencies”. When Bac Lieu province was re-established and the mass organizations were established, the Block Youth Union of Provincial Agencies also started operating, equivalent to the district and town Youth Unions at that time. When I returned to work at the unit and joined the Executive Committee of the Youth Union branch, the Block Youth Union was operating stably with the female leader, Ms. Tran Thanh Thuy. The Youth Union movements at that time did not have many fancy names like now, but were very vibrant. Sports movements on the anniversaries of the Union and Association were organized regularly and enthusiastically, attracting a large number of Youth Union members to participate and leaving many happy memories. I still remember, once when participating in the sports festival, the Youth Union branch did not have enough people, so we dragged the unit's young sons-in-law into the tug of war competition. Still unable to win, those sports events were not only the glue that bonded the brothers in the unit but also seemed to be the… sweetness of young families. Responding to the environmental sanitation movement, after leaving early, the youth union treated each other to the famous sticky rice with pork skin dish in Bac Lieu town.

In particular, the twinning movement between provincial-level agencies' Youth Unions and communes' unions in remote areas, launched by the Youth Union of the bloc, quickly received the support of all units in the bloc. This is a very meaningful activity, creating a connection between union members and youth in provincial-level agencies with young people in remote areas with difficult socio-economic conditions; at the same time, it is an activity to support resources for remote-area Youth Union organizations to implement models to care for the lives of union members and youth. It can be said that the Youth Union of the bloc is the first unit to build this model with very encouraging results. There are units that support the construction of charity houses, some units donate gardens, fish ponds or models of increased production, sometimes they give gifts to poor children, coordinate to organize free medical examinations and treatments for people... Civil servants and public employees who are used to working at desks are now participating in social activities in places that some have never even set foot in. That really affects the thinking and actions of many young people, creating a meaningful and practically effective movement.

The policy of organizing union activities at "red addresses" and historical sites also brings union members from the workplace to famous places in the province, making the activities not limited to four walls and formality but also absorbing many meaningful and useful historical lessons.

In the following stages, the Youth Union continued to make its mark with many diverse and practical activities and movements. However, when the number of Youth Union members in provincial agencies and units gradually decreased (due to the reduction in staffing quotas), many Youth Union branches were dissolved one after another due to the lack of members. And until now, the Youth Union is only a name in the beautiful memories of former Youth Union members in their 50s. However, the movements and activities of the Youth Union will forever be valuable experiences for future Youth Union bases to absorb and refer to in the process of approaching young people.

For us, the Youth Union has brought us a truly green youth!
