Giving health insurance cards: Giving kindness, spreading love

Not only does it create conditions for access to the health care system, for the poor, especially poor patients, the health insurance card is also a truly useful "lifebuoy" to help them avoid falling into debt when they unfortunately get sick.

Give charity to the poor

Ms. Lam Thi Xém (Ward 5, Bac Lieu City) is often sick. Due to poor health, she cannot do heavy labor, and all living expenses depend on her children's wages, so buying a health insurance card for Ms. Xém is extremely difficult. Understanding the situation of Ms. Xém's family, the Women's Union of Ward 5 supported her with a health insurance card.

According to Ms. Xém, being frugal in clothing and spending is fine, but being sick without a health insurance card means cutting off one’s own life. “I know the great value of a health insurance card, but I really can’t afford to buy one because my family’s life is still very difficult. Now that I have been given a health insurance card, it’s like having a “talisman” when I’m sick,” Ms. Xém shared with tears in her eyes.

At the age of 79, she should be enjoying her old age with her children and grandchildren, but Ms. Vo Thi Dam (Bo Tay Hamlet, Nha Mat Ward, Bac Lieu City) is still the main breadwinner of the family. Ms. Dam has 2 sons, but both of them are seriously ill and unable to work. The family's life is often difficult and impoverished. Every day, she has to go out and collect scrap to earn a living to provide food and clothing for her children. The amount of money she earns is not much, so every time she gets sick, she only buys a few pills. In order to share some of the difficulties, in 2024, the Women's Union of Nha Mat Ward supported a meaningful health insurance card so that Ms. Dam can have better health care conditions.

Only when meeting patients and families with sick relatives can one fully understand the value of a health insurance card. Supporting health insurance cards for poor patients is a very meaningful activity because it not only directly helps patients have the conditions to examine and treat their illnesses, but also indirectly helps hospitals solve difficulties in cases where patients cannot pay hospital fees.

Join hands to spread love

For many years now, the activity of giving health insurance cards to poor patients and people in difficult circumstances has been enthusiastically participated in by agencies, units, businesses and benefactors in the province as a way of encouragement and sharing love in a very humane and practical way.

Based on the fact that many women are facing economic difficulties and have little means to take care of their health, the Women's Union at all levels in the province has promoted its contribution activities and connected with benefactors to have funds to give health insurance cards to poor members who cannot afford to buy health insurance cards. Along with that, the Union at all levels has flexibly established models, teams, and groups to attract members to participate in buying health insurance, such as: Women's groups saving money to buy health insurance; Groups pooling capital to participate in health insurance for health; "Green House Fund Raising Model to support children and poor women"... Thereby creating conditions for women to receive regular health care and have the opportunity to access medical services.

For the Social Insurance sector, responding to the emulation movement "For the poor - No one is left behind", every year, the provincial Social Insurance launches a movement to donate and give health insurance cards to the poor. In 2024, the provincial Social Insurance donated 647 health insurance cards to people in difficult circumstances in the province (from the mobilized funds of the provincial Social Insurance and Vietnam Social Insurance allocated); mobilized agencies, units, enterprises, and philanthropists to register to participate in the Program to give health insurance cards to people in difficult circumstances, with a total of 1,023 health insurance cards...

Each health insurance card given to the poor is giving faith and hope to those in difficult circumstances, helping them have the conditions to take care of their health, treat diseases or prevent risks. Hopefully, the movement to give health insurance cards will always spread widely, so that more and more poor people can share the burden of hospital fees when they are sick or ill.
