Celebrating the 50th anniversary of the establishment of Vinh Linh District Forest Protection Department

This afternoon, June 7, Vinh Linh District Forest Protection Department held a ceremony to celebrate the 50th anniversary of its establishment on June 10 (1974 - 2024).

50 years ago, on the basis of Decree 101/CP dated May 21, 1973 regulating the organizational system, tasks and powers of the people's forest ranger force, on June 10, 1974, the Director General of the General Department of Forestry issued Decision No. 787/QD-LN on the establishment of the Vinh Linh area People's Forest Ranger Department under the Vietnam People's Forest Ranger Department.

From 1974 to 1975, the Vinh Linh People's Forest Protection Department operated under the direction of the People's Forest Protection Department, Vinh Linh Regional Committee, and Vinh Linh Forestry Department. During the period 1976 to 1989, the Vinh Linh People's Forest Protection Department was named Ben Hai People's Forest Protection Department...

On April 28, 1990, the Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Tri province signed Decision No. 588/QD on the establishment of Vinh Linh District Forest Protection Department under the Quang Tri Forest Protection Department.

From 1990 to present, the unit has arrested and handled 4,273 cases of forestry law violations, confiscated 7,478 ^{m3 of} round timber, 582 kg of wild animals, 145 kg of agarwood, dismantled and destroyed hundreds of illegally built camps in the forest, over 3,000 traps for wild animals... The unit always focuses on the socialization of forestry and forest management and protection; coordinates well in forest fire prevention and fighting, propagates and disseminates to the people the Party's policies and the State's policies and laws on forest protection and development.

Thanks to that, forest cover has increased significantly, from 28% in 1995, to 38.2% in 2006 and reaching nearly 49% in 2023. Up to now, the whole district has 37,951 hectares of forest land and non-forest land planned for forestry, accounting for 61.2% of the natural area of the whole district.

With its achievements, the unit was awarded 21 certificates of merit to the collective and 28 certificates of merit by the Prime Minister, the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, and the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee. In particular, in 2011, the unit was honored to receive the Third Class Labor Medal from the President.

In the coming time, Vinh Linh District Forest Protection Department will continue to strengthen its advice to Party committees and authorities at all levels to effectively implement policies and laws on forest management, protection and development. Fight, prevent and strictly handle violations of forestry laws. Promote activities to conserve biodiversity and specific ecosystems...

On this occasion, the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee awarded certificates of merit to 1 collective and 1 individual; the Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development awarded certificates of merit to 1 individual; the Chairman of the Vinh Linh District People's Committee awarded certificates of merit to 1 collective and 4 individuals with achievements in forest management, protection and development.
