Miss Ky Duyen stuttered and could not finish her presentation on the topic of books in episode two of Miss Universe Vietnam 2024, broadcast on the evening of August 28.
She began: "The truth is that I have not read a single book until now. Because I am a practical person. I like to enrich my knowledge through images and sounds." The contestant then stammered, pausing to catch her breath. Despite the encouragement of the judges, Ky Duyen still could not complete the test.
The judges commented that the beauty had an impressive way of posing the question but was disappointed because she did not present the whole problem. Producer Pharmacist Tien said: "Maybe you have too much pressure. You should learn from your experience, find a way to complete every exam, do not leave it unfinished for any reason."
In the backstage interview, Ky Duyen expressed her disappointment: "It felt really bad. It was like there was a wall in between, and I couldn't continue the presentation." On social media, the video of Ky Duyen's performance quickly went viral. The audience said they were surprised because she has 10 years of experience in showbiz, being a judge in many modeling competitions.
Due to her unconvincing performance, Ky Duyen fell into danger along with Thanh Hao and Hong My. All three received the question: "We are promoting independence in each individual in thinking and action. So is dependence a quality that should be condemned and eliminated?". Ky Duyen answered: "Dependence should not be condemned or eliminated, because it directly affects relationships from family to society. From a young age, children depend on their parents for care and nurturing, and later, when parents get old, they depend on their children." As a result, Ky Duyen and Thanh Hao were able to continue, Hong My was eliminated.
Previously, in episode one aired on August 22, Ky Duyen was also criticized for her poor English speaking skills and bad pronunciation. On her personal page, she explained: "It's been 10 years since I've returned to the beauty pageant, it's a real challenge. The mindset of competing is different, the environment and everything around me is also very different now, so I'm a bit nervous, I need time to adapt. I'm not perfect, there's a lot of pressure."
Information Ky Duyen's participation in Miss Universe Vietnam attracted attention in July when the organizers announced the contestant's profile. She was crowned Miss Vietnam 2014 and has been prominent in the fashion world for many years. Ky Duyen said she returned to the beauty pageant after 10 years because she wanted to fulfill her dream of stepping foot on the international stage.
Three years ago, she was still wondering whether she should continue to give herself a chance. Now Ky Duyen no longer feels confused, but instead is confident. She said: "I want to act now so I don't have to say regrets." To date, she is the first Miss Vietnam to participate in another domestic beauty pageant.
The beauty from Nam Dinh said she has been training her health and skills for the past few months. She improved her figure through diet and exercise. She is 1.75 m tall, weighs 56 kg, and has measurements of 85-59-93 cm.
Nguyen Cao Ky Duyen, 28 years old, was crowned Miss Vietnam 2014 when she was still a student at Hanoi Foreign Trade University. After becoming famous, she was involved in some scandals that affected her image, and she stopped working in showbiz for a while. When she returned, the beauty admitted that her shortcomings helped her become more mature.
She works mainly in the fashion industry, often holding the opening or vedette positions on the catwalk. Ky Duyen has been invited to be a judge and coach in competitions and programs such as The Look Vietnam 2017, Vietnam Supermodel 2018, Miss Sports 2022, The Face Vietnam 2023.
Miss Universe Vietnam 2024 started in June, attracting many familiar candidates to register. After the selection round, 33 girls will go through eight challenges before entering the final round, scheduled to be held in September in Ho Chi Minh City. The new beauty queen will win the right to compete in the 73rd Miss Universe in Mexico at the end of the year.
