On March 20, the Kien Giang Investment, Trade and Tourism Promotion Center said that the People's Committee of Kien Giang province has just issued an action plan to implement a circular economy in the province.

Accordingly, Kien Giang focuses on forming a sustainable production and consumption structure system, effectively using the value of natural resources, making the most of used raw materials and materials, limiting waste generation and reducing negative impacts on the environment.

Promote green growth associated with economic restructuring, renewing the growth model towards increasing efficiency and circular connectivity between enterprises and production and business sectors. Prioritize the implementation of circular economy to create new growth drivers, enhance resilience and recovery for the economy, and create breakthroughs in development.

At the same time, encourage a responsible lifestyle of individuals towards the community and society in terms of green living culture; thereby forming a civilized society in harmony with nature and the environment...

Specifically, by 2030, Kien Giang will develop a new, sustainable value chain associated with high added value, creating many new jobs through the application of circular economy; strongly attracting resources from green credit, green bonds and other legal resources for investment projects.

Strive for the rate of collected and treated solid waste in urban areas to reach 100%, and in rural areas 90%; the rate of solid waste treated by direct burial compared to the amount of collected waste to reduce to less than 50%.

The rate of wastewater treatment from production, business, service establishments, concentrated production, business, service areas, and industrial clusters discharged into the river basin environment reaches over 70%; the intensity of greenhouse gas emissions per gross domestic product is reduced by at least 14% compared to 2014.

By 2035, Kien Giang will realize an inclusive circular economy associated with innovation, creativity, high competitiveness, economic prosperity, environmental sustainability and social equity. Thereby, contributing to the successful implementation of goals and targets on efficient use of resources, environmental protection, response to climate change and sustainable development.

Priority sectors and fields to implement circular economy by 2035 include agriculture, forestry and fisheries; energy; mineral exploitation and mineral processing; processing and manufacturing industry; chemicals; construction; transportation; services and tourism; waste management and development of urban areas, concentrated residential areas; industrial parks, industrial clusters, concentrated production, business and service areas, etc.

Circular economy is a model in which activities from design, production, and service aim to extend the life of materials and eliminate negative impacts on the environment. Circular systems apply reuse processes through sharing, repair, refurbishment, remanufacturing, and recycling to create closed loops for resources used in the economic system; thereby minimizing the amount of resources used as inputs and the amount of waste created, as well as the level of environmental pollution and emissions.
