(kontumtv.vn) – It is expected that in this year’s dry season, more than 1,800 hectares of crops in the province are at risk of water shortage and drought at the end of the season. In some localities, people have proactively applied water-saving irrigation technology , helping to reduce production costs and minimize damage caused by drought .

To save labor and water during the dry season for 1.3 hectares of coffee intercropped with durian and passion fruit, Mr. Vi Dak Uyn in Thanh Xuan village, Dak Ngok commune, Dak Ha district invested in and installed a pressure compensation valve system, combining the fertilization process with irrigation. Mr. Vi Dak Uyn said: “This model has only been applied recently, since I started growing passion fruit. The benefits it brings are both economic and time savings and efficiency. Although it is new, it is effective. For example, I am applying it in a garden intercropped with coffee, passion fruit and durian. And at one time, I can water all three types.”

Mr. Bui Van Tai in residential group 4A, Dak Ha town, Dak Ha district has just installed drip irrigation technology for his replanted coffee garden and will later install additional irrigation pipes when the trees grow. The total initial investment cost is about 100 million VND. Mr. Tai said: “Firstly, watering is easy, saving effort; secondly, during the watering process, we can regulate the general fertilizer system into this irrigation system. We don’t have to dig up the roots to sprinkle or anything else, but we can stay at home and have a system connected to the suction pipe machine. We put the fertilizer in a large tank, then we connect the suction pipe system to push it up here; water directly into this root, then we can water with chemical fertilizer, or biological fertilizer.”

Currently, although there is no crop area damaged by drought and water shortage, according to the review, this year's dry season, Dak Ha district has over 25,000 hectares of crops that need a lot of water for irrigation. Therefore, proactively applying water-saving irrigation technology not only meets production requirements but also contributes to improving the quality and productivity of crops. Mr. Nguyen Van Dan - Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Dak Ha town, said: " Almost all areas around the town are used by the majority of people using advanced drip irrigation technology. Especially in some areas that have been recently planted, people mostly use water-saving irrigation systems to proactively water the plants. In addition to this drip irrigation system, some households have also been encouraged to use technology to remotely control the plants using a phone. It means that even though we are in another locality, we can control the fields here."

To proactively cope with the situation of drought and water shortage that may occur in agricultural production, in addition to measures to manage and operate irrigation works and organize dynamic irrigation, the Provincial People's Committee requires localities and relevant units to continue to disseminate and replicate scientific and economical irrigation methods to save water and meet the requirements of agricultural production in the dry season.

The application of water-saving irrigation technology is an inevitable direction in agricultural production. Especially to proactively respond to climate change which is becoming increasingly complex. In addition to the goal of expanding this technology, it is necessary to pay attention to the conditions, resources and advantages of each locality and region, and develop it with a focus, key points, suitable for the subject of application so that this technology brings high and long-term efficiency./.
