Urgently fix the problem, ensure enough coal for electricity

Sharing with Thanh Nien on July 1, a representative of the Electricity Regulatory Authority (Ministry of Industry and Trade) said that the hot weather that has lasted from June 28 until now has caused electricity consumption in the North to skyrocket.

The Electricity Regulatory Authority is coordinating with units to deploy solutions to ensure electricity supply for the North during the upcoming hot days, minimizing the possibility of power shortages and power outages.

A0 has planned to supply electricity to the North during the upcoming hot days.

According to this leader, on June 27, Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) issued a document requesting power generation units to concentrate human resources, materials, and equipment to overcome the problem. Early operation of generators and boilers that are having problems at Pha Lai 1 and 2 thermal power plants. Other plants must overcome the phenomenon of capacity reduction below the norm during operation due to problems with auxiliary systems, input fuel quality, and cooling water temperature.

EVN requires increasing the frequency of inspection and monitoring of on-site equipment operations to ensure the operational reliability of generators, early detection and handling of abnormalities, and preventing incidents, especially subjective incidents due to human error.

Units are ready with many plans, human resources, materials, and equipment at the factory to promptly handle any incidents that may occur in order to restore the operation of the generators as soon as possible; perform maintenance and repair of thermal power plants, ensure safe operation, and improve the availability of generators for the rest of this year, according to the approved plan.

EVN also requires units to seriously implement and take full responsibility for arranging coal sources for electricity production, ensuring sufficient and stable supply for power plant operations this year and the following years.

For the amount of coal exceeding the volume provided by Vietnam National Coal - Mineral Industries Group (TKV) and Dong Bac Corporation, investors of thermal power plants are responsible for arranging to ensure stable, reliable, safe operation of the plant and meet the mobilization requirements of A0.

Develop a power supply scenario during peak hot weather

According to A0, on June 30, the system's maximum consumption was 854.6 million kWh (21.6 million kWh higher than June 29, 46.1 million kWh higher than June 28); peak capacity was 41,823 MW at 2:30 p.m. In which, in the Northern region, electricity consumption was 432.8 million kWh, peak capacity was 20,751 MW at 10:30 p.m.

The fluctuations in peak electricity consumption and capacity in recent days show the impact of hot weather on increased electricity demand.

A representative of the Electricity Regulatory Authority said that according to the power supply scenario for the northern provinces developed by A0, from now until July 20, the power system will meet the load demand in the North.

The hot weather in the North is forecast to last until July 12, with the peak likely to fall on July 6-8, with the highest temperature reaching 39-40 degrees Celsius. According to A0's calculations, from July 2-12, the load in the North can reach an average of about 440 million kWh/day, the highest is about 470 million kWh/day with a peak capacity of 23,000 MW.

Updated to 0:00 on June 30, the output in hydroelectric reservoirs in the North is 2,065 million kWh. Also according to the scenario, in the coming hot days, Lai Chau reservoir will be exploited to raise the water level of Son La reservoir to increase available capacity.

In addition, Tuyen Quang Lake is exploited to support the regional power grid. Hoa Binh Lake is maintained in operation to meet the load of the North in the upcoming hot days, maintaining the water level of the lakes within the safe range to welcome the main flood season.

"If the above solutions are implemented synchronously, the electricity supply situation will be guaranteed, meeting the load demand of the country and the Northern region.

However, to proactively respond to extreme and unfavorable situations such as prolonged heat waves above 38 degrees Celsius, load exceeding 23,000 MW, unfavorable hydrological developments, etc., local authorities, units, businesses, and people need to continue to resolutely and effectively implement solutions to save electricity," said the leader of the Electricity Regulatory Authority.
