Dong A Bank honored more than 60 times
Dong A Commercial Joint Stock Bank (Dong A Bank) was placed under special control by the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) in August 2015 and is still in the process of restructuring. Since then, there has been no information about the bank receiving any “prestigious” awards from domestic and international organizations. This is in complete contrast to what happened before.
According to statistics, this bank has been honored a total of more than 60 times by domestic and international organizations.
In 2014 alone, the last year before the major economic scandal involving the violations of former leader Tran Phuong Binh, Dong A Bank received 8 awards and certificates of merit of various kinds.
Among them are awards given by foreign organizations such as: "Best domestic retail bank in Vietnam in 2014" awarded by Asian Banking & Finance magazine, "Most modern ATM in Vietnam in 2014" awarded by Global Banking and Finance Review (UK), "Good growth in international payment turnover in 2014" awarded by Wells Fargo Bank (USA), "Standard telegram rate (STP) 2013" awarded by Bank of New York Mellon (BNY) - USA. In addition, there is also the "Strong Vietnamese Brand" award for the 8th consecutive time voted by the Trade Promotion Agency (Ministry of Industry and Trade);...
From 2006 to 2013, Dong A Bank was honored more than 50 times in different categories, mainly in the period 2010 to 2013.
These include the award “Best Domestic Foreign Exchange Bank in Vietnam 2012” by Asian Banking & Finance magazine. The award “Most Satisfied Service 2013” by the Association of High Quality Vietnamese Goods Enterprises. The award “Best Marketing Implementation Cooperation Unit 2011” by MoneyGram. The award “STP Standard Telegraphic Rate” (Straight – Through – Processing) in 2010, 2011, 2013 by the Bank of New York.

"Rain" of awards for OceanBank
Similar to SCB and Dong A Bank, a bank under special control, Ocean Bank, has also received more than 30 titles, awards, and certificates of merit from domestic and international organizations in the period from 2009 to 2014.
OceanBank was compulsorily acquired by the State Bank of Vietnam for “zero dong” in 2015 after the bank failed to restructure itself. Since then, no further awards have been announced by the bank.
In 2014 alone, the last year before being forced to buy, OceanBank received a series of awards such as: Best Retail Bank in Vietnam 2014; Best Banking Group in Vietnam 2014; Enterprise for Employees 2014; Best E-Banking Initiative in Vietnam 2014.
Previously, this bank was also awarded by international organizations such as: Best Retail Bank in Vietnam 2013; Bank with the most innovative products and services in Vietnam 2013; Fastest growing retail bank in Vietnam 2012; Top 100 Banks with the strongest balance sheet in the Asia Pacific region; Top 500 Largest Banks in the Asia Pacific region; STP (Straight – Through – Processing) Award for high-standard payment banks presented by Wells Fargo in 2011, 2012, 2013;…
Not as “noisy” as SCB, Dong A Bank or OceanBank, the two “zero-dong” banks, Global Petroleum Bank (GPBank) and Construction Bank (CBBank), appear to be “inferior” in terms of international awards.
Instead, these two banks only announce awards and certificates of merit presented by domestic organizations, ministries and local authorities.
Among them are Certificates of Merit for contributions to local emulation movements, or Certificates of Merit for achievements in business. These awards were given to GPBank and CBBank in the period from 2006 to 2014.
