Prosecution and temporary detention of 7 defendants

Regarding the theft of power cables from the Ca Mau 1A Wind Power Plant, on May 10, the Criminal Police Department of Ca Mau Province Police issued a decision to prosecute and temporarily detain 7 suspects to investigate the act of property theft.

The defendants include: Nguyen Van Hai (30 years old), Thach Lui (32 years old), Nguyen Van Hai (43 years old, all residing in Tan Thuan commune, Dam Doi district, Ca Mau), Thach Lel (39 years old), Thach Cui (34 years old), Huynh Van Doi (40 years old, all residing in Ganh Hao town, Dong Hai district, Bac Lieu).

Defendant Nguyen Van Hai confessed to stealing 1 kg of copper wire core and selling it for 150,000 VND.

In relation to the case, Pham Van Minh (44 years old, residing in Hoa Binh Town, Hoa Binh District, Bac Lieu) was prosecuted and temporarily detained to investigate the act of consuming property obtained by others through crime.

"The Criminal Police Department is focusing its forces to expand the investigation, identify related subjects to clarify and strictly handle, ensuring the investment environment and security and order in the area," the source added.

The defendants were temporarily detained for investigation of property theft (from left to right and from top to bottom): Thach Cui, Thach Lui, Nguyen Van Hai, Thach Lel and Huynh Van Doi

As Thanh Nien reported, on April 9, Ca Mau 1A Wind Power Plant (Tan Thuan Commune, Tan Tien Commune, Dam Doi District, Ca Mau) reported the theft of power cables, batteries, and generators from 15 wind power towers. The total value of stolen assets was more than 28 billion VND.

According to the report of Ca Mau 1A Wind Power Plant, from March 17 to April 1, the unit discovered 3 thefts with more than 4,500 m of electrical wires in 15 turbines. The theft by Hai, Lel, and Doi on May 3 alone was more than 1 ton of copper wire cores.

Pham Van Minh was caught red-handed while buying copper wire cores from Hai.

Using professional measures, on May 4, the Criminal Police Department of Ca Mau Province Police in coordination with Dam Doi District Police discovered Nguyen Van Hai selling copper wire cores to Pham Van Minh. Checking Hai's vehicle, the task force discovered 16 sacks containing copper wire cores, weighing 1 ton.

Working with the police, Hai admitted that he, Thach Lel and Huynh Van Doi, went to the turbines of the Ca Mau 1A Wind Power Plant on a boat to steal grounding cables, then stripped the copper core wire to sell, but were discovered. Hai confessed to the investigation agency that 1 kg of copper core wire was sold for 150,000 VND.

According to the police, the defendant Huynh Van Doi has a previous conviction for intentionally causing injury and was sentenced to 5 years in prison by the People's Court of Dong Hai District (Bac Lieu), and will be released in 2023.

The above-mentioned case of theft of wind power pole cables is being further investigated and handled by the Criminal Police Department of Ca Mau Province Police according to the provisions of law.
