Dong Thap Duong Cay Bridge , spanning Rach Ap River, was inaugurated to the joy of hundreds of people in the region.
Late in the afternoon, people in An Phu Thuan commune, Chau Thanh district still lingered at the newly completed bridge, sharing in the joy of the inauguration of the new project. "Everyone was amazed at how beautiful the new bridge is," said Ms. Nguyen Thi Nga, Head of Phu Thanh hamlet.

Recalling the old bridge, Mr. Huynh Van Nhuong said that the previous concrete bridge was narrow and had been built for more than 20 years, just wide enough for a three-wheeled vehicle to pass. Because it was built quite steeply, people on one side could hardly see people on the other side moving at the same time. When they reached the middle of the bridge, they discovered that one side had to slide downhill in difficulty. "Many roads go through this bridge. The bridge is small, narrow and damaged. Everyone who passes through it complains about the difficulty," said Mr. Nhuong.
Responding to the people's wishes, the new bridge was built with the cooperation of the Hope Fund and local authorities... During the construction days, people along Rach Ap gathered to contribute to the construction of the bridge, cook food, and make drinks to treat the teachers and workers. After three months of construction, the day the bridge was inaugurated was also the day hundreds of people fulfilled their long-standing dream. The new bridge was designed with concrete, 50m long, 3.7m wide, costing more than 1.2 billion VND, of which the Hope Fund sponsored 200 million VND, the rest was matched by the locality.
People living around Vam Rach Nuoc Trong Bridge (Lai Vung District) are also looking forward to the day the bridge is completed. Attending the groundbreaking ceremony on May 16, Mr. Nguyen Van Sang, said that the old bridge was narrow and small, so gardeners had to transport their agricultural products by machine or push small carts across the bridge. Traffic was difficult, so he and dozens of other farmers were often forced to sell at low prices, and even though the agricultural products were in season, they could not fully enjoy their harvest.
"Dozens of tons of mangoes, oranges, and grapefruits had to be pushed across the bridge in wheelbarrows weighing a few dozen kilograms, which was very difficult," said Mr. Sang. Therefore, the newly started bridge (Hy Vong Bridge 297) made many people happy, in the future, traveling will be more convenient, gardening and farming will be easier. Along with Hy Vong Bridge 300 and 297, 12 other bridges were also inaugurated and started construction in the two localities of Chau Thanh and Lai Vung on May 16.

Mr. Le Hoang Quyet, Permanent Vice President of the Vietnam Youth Union of Dong Thap province, who accompanied the entire bridge construction journey, said that the Hope Fund project has connected the bridges according to the wishes of the people.
In addition, the fund always accompanies the locality, ready to share the difficulties of the people, bringing meaningful and sustainable works with long-term value to the community. "The bridges connecting the two banks are the common joy of the people, clearly shown through the sharing and smiles when we went to break ground and inaugurate the Hope Bridges," he shared.
Ms. Truong Thanh Thanh - President of the Hope Fund, said that 5 years ago the fund only hoped to build 100 bridges for rural people, but by the end of this year the number could reach 350. According to her, this unexpected result comes from the consensus and joint efforts not only of donors through the Hope Fund but also of local people and authorities at all levels.
She was also impressed with the volunteer bridge-building teams that joined in. "Everywhere we went, we met aunts, uncles, and brothers building charity bridges together - a very typical feature of the people of the South," Ms. Thanh shared.
