Urgent research to rebuild Ham Ninh bridge

Báo Kinh tế và Đô thịBáo Kinh tế và Đô thị31/10/2024

In 2023, the People's Committee of Ham Ninh Commune (Phu Quoc City) submitted a document to competent authorities "Requesting investment policy to build Ham Ninh Bridge to serve people's daily needs, create a highlight for tourism development, and promote socio-economic development in the commune".

Accordingly, Ham Ninh bridge was previously built of wood, and in 2002, Ham Ninh bridge was rebuilt of reinforced concrete, 3m wide, more than 500m long from the shore to the sea. However, after many years of use, Ham Ninh bridge has never been repaired or upgraded, so the bridge has been damaged, seriously degraded, unsafe and very dangerous for people and tourists.

Therefore, in October 2019, the Construction Inspection and Services Center - Kien Giang Department of Construction surveyed and assessed the level of danger of the Ham Ninh bridge structure with the conclusion: The load-bearing capacity of the structure cannot meet the requirements of normal use, the project appears to be in an overall dangerous state.

On January 3, 2020, Phu Quoc City People's Committee directed the Urban Management Department to coordinate with Ham Ninh Commune People's Committee and related departments and branches to dismantle the wharf to avoid future consequences. Before dismantling, the leaders of the City People's Committee promised the people that it would be rebuilt with a larger scale and safer structure. Since then, the City People's Committee and the commune have also called for investment to rebuild Ham Ninh Commune wharf using socialized resources and there are also a few investors interested in planning to apply for investment. However, up to now, it has not been approved to carry out investment procedures according to regulations.

To ensure the lives of local people and promote tourism development in Ham Ninh commune, contributing to sustainable socio-economic development, it is necessary to invest in rebuilding Ham Ninh bridge in a modern direction. Considering that if calling for investment from socialized sources, the investment scale will be large and related to site clearance as well as difficult to manage and distinguish the interests of investors with the people later.

Considering the current situation and long-term development orientation, the function of Ham Ninh Bridge will change and will no longer be a bridge for transporting goods and seafood. The cargo port and seafood port will be built in accordance with the planning and IUU regulations. Therefore, Ham Ninh port should invest in construction in the direction of creating a highlight serving the community space and tourism. In the future, it will be a destination not to be missed when traveling to Phu Quoc.

Along with the submission, the People's Committee of Ham Ninh commune has proposed two design options for the construction of Ham Ninh bridge. However, the bridge has not yet been built.

Speaking to reporters of the Economic & Urban newspaper on the afternoon of October 31, Mr. Le Quoc Anh, Secretary of the Phu Quoc City Party Committee, said: The city is very interested in this issue, and we will be determined to do it soon. The viewpoint is to socialize through organizing bidding.
