South Korea continues to be the largest international tourist market, with 844,000 arrivals (accounting for 27.7%).

China ranked second, reaching 538,000 visits, Taiwan ranked third (198,000 visits), followed by the US (156,000 visits).

In particular, the Chinese market has had a very impressive recovery, 7.5 times higher than the same period in 2023.

Of the total of more than 3 million international tourists to Vietnam, arrivals by air accounted for 84.2%, 1.6 times higher than the same period in 2023; by road accounted for 12.8%; by sea accounted for 3%.

However, the Korean and Chinese tourist markets alone account for more than 40% of total international visitors.

In the top 10 largest markets of Vietnamese tourism, there are also Japan (107,000 arrivals), Australia (97,000 arrivals), Malaysia (92,000 arrivals), India (79,000 arrivals), Cambodia (79,000 arrivals), Thailand (76,000 arrivals).

Notably, markets in Europe are growing vigorously, especially markets that enjoy unilateral visa exemption policies such as: UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Russia...

Regarding domestic tourists, in February 2024, the whole country had about 14 million visitors, of which about 4.9 million stayed. Total revenue from tourists in February 2024 is estimated at 136,100 billion VND.

The excitement of tourism activities and the results of welcoming international visitors in the first two months of 2024 show a very positive recovery of Vietnam's tourism industry.

In particular, the clear impact of the visa policy applied from August 15, 2023, increasing the temporary stay period from 15 days to 45 days for countries with unilateral visa exemption, and issuing electronic visas to all countries with a temporary stay period of up to 90 days.

According to the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, these are positive signs for the Vietnamese tourism industry in early 2024, laying the foundation for the industry to strive to achieve the goal of welcoming 18 million international visitors this year.

Target 17-18 million international visitors

In 2024, Vietnam aims to welcome about 17-18 million international visitors. In the most ideal conditions, if the figure reaches 18 million, the tourism industry will be considered to have fully recovered, returning to the record level of 2019.

According to businesses, this figure is not too difficult to achieve, however, to achieve the goal, Vietnamese tourism must identify key markets and have early outreach and promotion campaigns.
