At least 11 people died and were injured due to landslides and flash floods in Ha Giang

According to Mr. Phung Viet Vinh, Chairman of the People's Committee of Bac Quang district (Ha Giang province), as of the afternoon of September 29, rain and wind caused flash floods and landslides in this district, causing at least 11 casualties.

Of these, 2 people died and 3 people were missing (1 more than the noon report), 6 people were injured (while trying to escape the flash flood and landslide).

Bac Quang District People's Committee also counted 39 damaged houses (of which 9 houses were completely collapsed).

Heavy rains have caused damage to property and infrastructure in many communes and towns such as Thuong Binh, Dong Tam, Viet Vinh, Huu San, Kim Ngoc, Tan Lap, Tan Thanh... with an estimated value of more than 13 billion VND.

According to Mr. Nguyen Dam Thuyen, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Bac Quang district (Ha Giang province), at the landslide point on the positive slope at Km49 - National Highway 2 through Nam Tang slope, the authorities of Ha Giang province mobilized 300 people including police, soldiers, militia, along with 5 large excavators, 1 grader and 8 trucks to grade and transport soil and rocks.

However, by the afternoon of September 29, the road had not yet been cleared, and traffic between Ha Giang and Tuyen Quang provinces was still completely paralyzed. The estimated volume of rock and soil was more than 10,000m3 (the old report was 3,000m3 ). It is estimated that it will take 2 days to clear the landslide.

According to the authorities, the number of people buried at the landslide site at Km49 - National Highway 2 may increase. Ha Giang Provincial Police are mobilizing more soldiers to urgently search for people in buried houses.

Authorities recommend that people with relatives who passed through the scene at that time, who are currently uncontactable or missing, immediately report to the Fire Police and Rescue Force (phone number 114) or the nearest local authority.

Previously, as reported by SGGP Newspaper, at around 9:00 a.m. on September 29, a large amount of rock and soil from the positive slope on National Highway 2 - Km49 section through Nam Tang slope, Viet Vinh commune, Bac Quang district (Ha Giang province) collapsed onto the residential area and road surface after heavy rain that lasted from night to morning.

This is the main artery connecting Tuyen Quang province with Ha Giang province. The entire national highway, more than 300m long, was covered by thousands of cubic metres of rock and soil, completely paralysing traffic for many hours. Rock and soil poured into the stream, blocking the water and flooding it 1m deep. Witnesses said that the landslide and flood swept away 1 passenger bus, 1 truck and 3 cars; buried 4 houses, affecting 15 others.

Not only landslides on National Highway 2, but according to the People's Committee of Bac Quang district, landslides also occurred on Provincial Road 177 with more than 2,500m3 of soil and rock, and traffic was still blocked as of the afternoon of September 29. The Dong Tam - Tan Quang route also had landslides on the positive slope at 12 points, with a total landslide volume of about 2,000m3 ...
