The Time of Israel online newspaper reported that on September 4, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared that withdrawing troops from the Philadelphia Corridor on the border between southern Gaza and Egypt is a "red line."
Mr Netanyahu insisted that Israel would not withdraw its troops from the corridor until there were guarantees that the area could never be used as a supply route for the Islamist movement Hamas. The leader accused the corridor of being used to smuggle weapons into Gaza.
On September 5, Reuters news agency quoted a statement from the Hamas movement saying that the above statement was proof that the Israeli Prime Minister was trying to prevent the ceasefire agreement that the parties were striving towards.
Hamas' statement also warned "not to fall into the trap" of Israel.
Hamas accepted the proposal made by the US on July 2 and affirmed that there was no need to propose a new ceasefire in Gaza but needed to put pressure on Israel to agree to the previous US plan.
Washington is expected to propose a new ceasefire to break the deadlock in the Gaza Strip.

According to The National News of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Arab countries in the region, including the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Oman, have criticized Netanyahu's stance and expressed solidarity with Egypt.
The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemns Israel's offensive statements regarding the Philadelphia Corridor and calls on the country to cool down and avoid escalating tensions and instability in the region.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Oman also expressed solidarity with Egypt regarding the Philadelphia Corridor and strongly condemned Israel's statements regarding this area in Gaza.
Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia warned that Israel's insistence on taking control of the Philadelphia Corridor and its provocative statements could derail mediation efforts aimed at achieving a ceasefire in Gaza.
