According to BGR , some of the latest leaks say that Apple may equip the iPhone 16 Pro line with the brightest screen ever. Specifically, leaker (a person who specializes in leaking technology information) Instant Digital shared on social network Weibo that Apple is planning to increase the screen brightness on upcoming iPhone models in 2024 by 20%.
That means SDR brightness will hit 1,200 nits, up from 1,000 nits on previous generations. The standard peak brightness hasn't changed since the iPhone 13 Pro, and Apple hasn't improved HDR peak brightness since the iPhone 14 Pro, which maxed out at 2,000 nits.
iPhone 16 Pro rumored to have 20% brighter display
KEJIXUN SCREENSHOT
Instant Digital is considered a fairly reliable leaker, having accurately revealed information about future Apple products. The account has correctly predicted the gold iPhone 14, the colored glass of the iPhone 15, the horizontal front camera on the latest iPad models, and even the nano-texture screen for the iPad Pro M4.
That’s not the only source predicting a brighter display for the iPhone 16 Pro, however. A few months ago, The Elec also reported that Apple was planning to increase the brightness of its latest iPhone models. According to the publication, the next iPhone’s display could be even brighter, as Samsung and LG have reportedly shown off microlens array (MLA) OLED panels to Apple.
Placing MLA lens layers inside the OLED panel directs the reflected light towards the user, increasing the brightness of the phone without increasing power consumption. A notable benefit is reduced power consumption when using a conventional OLED panel. However, the MLA layer can affect the viewing angle of the display.
In addition, other rumors about the iPhone 16 Pro screen also say that Apple wants to increase the screen size to 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch versions, and reduce the bezels of all iPhone 16 models by using new Border Reduction Structure (BRS) technology, winding copper wire inside into a compact package.
It’s unclear how thin the new display bezels might be, as the current bezels are 1.55mm for the iPhone 15 Pro models. However, it seems Apple is focusing on reducing the bottom bezel on all new iPhones.
