On August 10, Muong Khuong district organized the implementation of the new tea planting plan for 2023. With the slogan "Where there are tea trees, there is happiness", in 2023, the district plans to plant nearly 900 hectares of new tea in 15 communes and towns.
Accordingly, to implement Resolution 10 of the Provincial Party Committee Standing Committee, Muong Khuong district has focused on propagating and mobilizing people to change their mindset from small-scale household agricultural production to agricultural economic development. In particular, the district has identified the development of commercial tea production associated with rapid and sustainable poverty reduction. By 2030, the district strives to increase the total tea area of the district to 7,200 hectares.
According to Mr. To Viet Thanh, Vice Chairman of Muong Khuong District People's Committee, in recent years, the locality has identified tea as a key crop suitable for the land and production conditions for investment and development associated with attracting enterprises and cooperatives to cooperate, produce and consume products according to the value chain. According to the plan, in the 2023 tea planting season, Muong Khuong district strives to plant 900 hectares of commercial tea; including 795 hectares of Shan tea and 105 hectares of Kim Tuyen tea.
To successfully implement the tea planting plan in 2023, Muong Khuong district has directed the People's Committees of communes to review land funds; convert other ineffective crop land areas to tea planting, ensuring no encroachment on natural forests, protective forests and land under other planning... Instructing people to carry out land clearing and preparation; preparing over 14 million seedlings for people to plant in the time frame starting from August to the end of October 2023.
Regarding funding, to support people in growing tea, Muong Khuong district has used funding from programs and projects, specifically: sources from National Target Programs to support new planting of 670 hectares in 15 communes and towns; capital sources from the socio-economic development project - the model of soldiers associated with ethnic minority and mountainous people in 2023 to support new planting of 30 hectares in Cao Son and La Pan Tan communes; sources from the Technical Support Project for Developing Combined Agroforestry Livelihood Models to support new planting of 200 hectares in Ban Lau, Ta Gia Khau communes and Muong Khuong town...
Up to now, the whole Muong Khuong district has 4,941 hectares of commercial tea, with an output of 26,234 tons, worth 190 billion VND/year. The district has 7 processing facilities with a processing capacity of about 38,000 tons of fresh tea buds/year (3 factories produce tea for export). The entire output of fresh tea buds produced is consumed smoothly and stably.
