Associate Professor, Dr. Dao The Anh, Deputy Director of the Vietnam Academy of Agricultural Sciences (VAAS) shared Vietnam's practical experiences in applying the One Health approach at the workshop "One Health Horizon: Promoting cooperation, innovation and policy to improve global health and ensure food security".
Here, the VAAS leader emphasized that to promote the effectiveness of One Health - an approach that requires multi-sectoral coordination, Vietnam not only seeks support from international organizations but also proactively mobilizes domestic resources.
A typical example is the establishment of the Vietnam One Health Partnership (OHP) - a forum bringing together government agencies, the private sector, research institutes and international organizations to promote coordinated and comprehensive actions.
The OHP framework has now expanded its areas of action to contribute to the goal of transforming the national food system through an agroecological approach, incorporating additional goals of improving plant health, soil, water, etc. and controlling the use of fertilizers and antibiotics in both crop and livestock production.
Associate Professor, Dr. Dao The Anh also emphasized the importance of implementing One Health at the field level, through building data platforms and building capacity for grassroots staff through One Health field facilities.
Mr. To Viet Chau, Deputy Director of the Department of International Cooperation, Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, was one of the speakers at the discussion session on "Promoting Regional Integration and South-South Cooperation". Photo: ILRI.
With the topic related to food system transformation, the previous discussion session with the topic "Promoting regional integration and South-South cooperation" also emphasized the strong progress in the CGIAR-ASEAN partnership to transform food systems and enhance resilience to climate change.
Mr. To Viet Chau, Deputy Director General of the Department of International Cooperation, Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, emphasized the importance of orienting CGIAR support in line with national priorities, enhancing knowledge sharing, capacity building, promoting the role of innovation and comprehensive partnerships in the context of climate change. The ASEAN-CGIAR Regional Program on Enhancing Food Security and Nutrition is an example that needs to be replicated.
The main objectives of the program are to improve the livelihoods of food producers, ensure affordable and nutritious food for consumers, and create a healthier natural environment in the ASEAN region.

In this, the One Health approach is integrated into the program to address issues related to human, animal and environmental health in a comprehensive manner. In the context of Southeast Asia, where many emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases are present, the application of this approach is very important.
Faced with global issues such as climate change, land degradation, food insecurity, etc., the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) in collaboration with the Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organization (KALRO) organized the first CGIAR Science Week from May 7-12.
The event brings together world-leading scientists and policy makers in the fields of agriculture, climate and health, marking a pivotal moment to accelerate research, innovation, drive action and establish strategic partnerships towards mobilizing investment for sustainable food systems for people and the planet.
