Soul flies up to become national spirit

Việt NamViệt Nam22/09/2023

The above verse has become a trademark of poet Tran The Tuyen. The body falls to become the land of the Fatherland/ The soul flies up to become the spirit of the nation. The two verses seem to add energy for me to be able to read almost in one go, nearly 8,000 verses divided into 6 chapters of the epic poem National Anniversary. An epic poem rich in emotions, imbued with the spirit of "Repaying gratitude", "When drinking water, remember its source".

Epic quality, Tran The Tuyen has a comprehensive view of the nation's history from the beginning of time, through many resistance wars against foreign invaders for thousands of years. The beginning of time, the Cuong Tho (chapter 1) has already determined its shape: In the beginning of time / On the shore of the Pacific Ocean / There was a peaceful strip of land / Cai River carrying heavy alluvium down to the sea / The vast forest, the sound of the stream, lingering / The footsteps of people picking fruit, hunting deer...

Interaction with author Colonel - Poet Tran The Tuyen (2nd from left).

Chapter 1 - The author affirms a clear and distinct territory, countless soldiers sacrificed themselves, sacrificed their youth for peace, independence and freedom. The soldiers who fell came from the people, fought for the people.

Chapter 2 – Ethnicity, affirms that Vietnam has 54 ethnic groups, a territory that never accepts slavery, and is not afraid of any invaders: On the sacred land/ The territory is clearly defined/ there are 54 ethnic groups… Mother Au Co/ Father Lac Long Quan for thousands of years/… formed the country/… The nation is strong, the territory is golden/… The children and grandchildren today sacrifice themselves for the country…

Chapter 3 – Opening the country. The land is the legacy of our ancestors… Opening the southern land for hundreds of years of hardship. The glorious and heroic opening of the country, the pride of the soldiers protecting the land: The land is the legacy of our ancestors/… The soldiers came from the people/ Made the battles of Xoai and Rach Gam/ Defeated the intervening Siamese army/ Blood was shed on the land of Nine Dragons, building monuments to heroes… Opening the southern land for hundreds of years of hardship/ Blood and bones flooded the South…

Chapter 4 – Fatherland. The image of the patriotic young man Nguyen Tat Thanh - Nguyen Ai Quoc - Ho Chi Minh is closely associated with the image of the Fatherland - thousands of years of building and defending the country. One day, at that port, he left/ Nguyen Tat Thanh sought a way to save the country/ Nha Rong Wharf kept his promise: "Oh Saigon, I will return". The August Revolution succeeded, the Democratic Republic of Vietnam was born. The enemy invaded our country once again, the whole country achieved the victory of Dien Bien Phu. The capital was covered with red flags/ People and flowers, thirty-six streets were radiant/ Behind - the forests were filled with countless people/ The sacred Fatherland was red with the flag.

Chapter 5 – The Righteous. There were millions of righteous men who went to battle to defend the country, millions of righteous men who sacrificed their lives to protect the country. They were righteous men/ with the same breath/ With the same heartbeat/ For the country to be peaceful/ For the people to be safe and happy/ They sacrificed themselves for the country/ They “Sacrificed themselves for the country”/ To be famous for thousands of years/ To be a torch for thousands of years/… The righteous men who fell so that the Vietnamese sky would be forever blue/… The righteous men who shed their blood/ Lived indomitably, died proudly, standing tall/ For the Fatherland to be forever strong/ For the nation to be forever famous/ Have gone down in history/ For their descendants to remember forever.

So this nation needs a National Memorial Day - Chapter 6. In fact, July 27th every year is the Memorial Day of the heroes and martyrs who fell to save the Fatherland. National Memorial Day is like an oath to the country/ To be grateful to our ancestors, the founders of the country/ To show gratitude to those who sacrificed themselves for the Fatherland/ National Memorial Day is like a sail/ Filled with wind to carry the future and the past/ To make the Vietnamese character shine in history/ To make the golden bowl last forever/… National Memorial Day is like a song/ A song to protect the country/ National Memorial Day is like a steadfast oath/ To sacrifice oneself for the glorious Fatherland.

Tran The Tuyen is a writer about comrades, half a century of writing with only one topic, writing about Uncle Ho's soldiers. He said: "Writing about comrades, about soldiers is a source that never runs dry, a debt that can never be paid off". The fire of passion burns with only one topic - the fight and sacrifice for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland, peace, prosperity, and happiness of the people.

The National Memorial Day only exists in reality, it does not have a national name. And this is another heartfelt voice contributing to creating a name for the National Memorial Day.
