BTO - The 110th anniversary of the birth of comrade Ly Tu Trong (October 20, 1914 - October 20, 2024) is not only an occasion for us to remember the hero who fell for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland, but also an opportunity for each union member and worker to reflect on themselves and learn from his steadfast revolutionary spirit. Comrade Ly Tu Trong's shining example of patriotism and bravery in the struggle will forever be a source of inspiration for young generations in the cause of building and defending the Fatherland.
Shining symbol of the young generation
Ly Tu Trong's real name is Le Huu Trong, born on October 20, 1914. He was born into a family with a rich tradition of patriotism, his father was Le Huu Dat (also known as Le Khoan) from Ke Vet village (now Viet Tien commune), Thach Ha district, Ha Tinh province and his mother was Nguyen Thi Som, from Can Loc district, Ha Tinh province. Faced with oppression and exploitation by feudal colonialists, Ly Tu Trong's family left their homeland to live in Ban May, Nakhon Phanom province, Thailand and participated in patriotic activities.
From a young age, Le Huu Trong showed his intelligence, agility, and eagerness to learn. At the age of 6, he was able to attend a school opened by the leaders of the Vietnam Restoration Association in Ban May. Here, he learned the history of Vietnam, patriotic literature and poetry of Phan Boi Chau and other patriots, as well as Chinese and Thai languages... In mid-1925, comrade Ho Tung Mau - a member of the Vietnam Revolutionary Youth Association went to Thailand to meet Dang Thuc Hua, and conveyed comrade Nguyen Ai Quoc's request to select a number of children from patriotic overseas Vietnamese families to send to Guangzhou for long-term training to prepare for the establishment of a Communist Youth organization in Vietnam.
Le Huu Trong was one of the eight selected teenagers. Arriving in Guangzhou, this group of teenagers was directly educated and trained by leader Nguyen Ai Quoc (at that time named Ly Thuy). To ensure secrecy, the teenagers all had the surname Ly as if they were members of the same family, and Le Huu Trong changed his name to Ly Tu Trong. He and the group of teenagers were brought into the "Young Pioneers of Vietnam", the first form of communist youth organization of the Vietnamese revolution. After a period of study, Ly Tu Trong was fluent in Chinese and was appointed as a liaison for the General Department of the Vietnam Revolutionary Youth Association in Guangzhou.
In mid-1929, he was sent back to work in Saigon - Cho Lon, participating in many revolutionary activities, and at the same time, taking on the task of domestic and international communication for the Southern Regional Party Committee. Ly Tu Trong was assigned by the Party Central Committee with the special task of researching the youth situation in Saigon - Cho Lon to prepare for the establishment of the Communist Youth Union. He was arrested by the French colonialists in 1931. Despite being brutally tortured, Ly Tu Trong remained steadfast and did not reveal any information. Ly Tu Trong was sentenced to death when he was not yet 17 years old.
Although the life of hero Ly Tu Trong was short, the revolutionary spirit of the first communist youth union member became a shining example for generations of young people to follow. His spirit and will became a shining, sacred, and noble symbol in the hearts of generations of union members and young people. His immortal words before the criminal court: "The path of youth is only the revolutionary path, there can be no other path...", became the ideal of life and the guiding principle for generations of Vietnamese youth in all periods.
Youth follow the example of comrade Ly Tu Trong
Following the example and footsteps of Ly Tu Trong, generations of Vietnamese youth have united under the glorious flag of the Party, contributing to the August Revolution of 1945, founding the Democratic Republic of Vietnam. During the two resistance wars against French colonialism and American imperialism, generations of Vietnamese youth have followed one another on the road with the spirit of "Determination to die for the Fatherland, determination to live", "Splitting Truong Son to save the country", contributing to the great victory, gaining independence and freedom for the Fatherland and unifying the country. Peace was restored, entering the period of national renewal, generations of youth have strived to overcome difficulties and challenges, nurturing great dreams and ambitions. The revolutionary path of previous generations and comrade Ly Tu Trong has been and is guiding the young generation today to be proactive, volunteer, and take the lead in all fields.
In Binh Thuan in recent years, the Youth Union at all levels has initiated many initiatives, launched many campaigns and emulation movements with practical significance. Notably, in 2023, the Youth Union at all levels of Binh Thuan province implemented 438 youth projects and works with a total value of 4 billion VND, attracting more than 157,000 young people to participate in the volunteer activities of the Union. At the same time, it supported the realization of 576 ideas and initiatives of union members and young people; including 10 high-tech application ideas. At the same time, it participated in planting more than 271,000 trees; coordinated career counseling for nearly 62,000 young people; introduced jobs to more than 9,200 young people...
In 2024 alone, with the theme "Year of Youth Volunteers", the Youth Union at all levels in Binh Thuan province has been strengthening education on revolutionary ideals, ethics, cultural lifestyle, improving political capacity, and arousing the desire to contribute in young people. At the same time, focusing on effectively implementing the policy of "3 links", enhancing the application of information technology, digital transformation in volunteer activities. In addition, continuing to innovate the content, methods of organization and operation of the Youth Union movement to meet the requirements and tasks in the new situation; strengthening digital transformation in implementing the work of the Youth Union and youth movements... Thereby promoting the role of vanguard, volunteering, participating in socio-economic development, building and defending the Fatherland; at the same time creating an environment and conditions for young people to mature and develop comprehensively.
Faced with the requirements of the period of accelerating industrialization and modernization of the country, the fourth industrial revolution and the integration process creating both opportunities and challenges for all countries, this requires Vietnamese youth in general and Binh Thuan youth in particular to continue to promote the spirit of vanguard, volunteerism, creativity and responsibility in the cause of building and defending the Fatherland, especially in international integration, national digital transformation, contributing to realizing the country's development goals by 2030, with a vision to 2045.
Commemorating the 110th anniversary of the birth of comrade Ly Tu Trong, paying tribute to the great contributions, strong will, indomitable spirit, and selfless sacrifice for the country and people of the first communist youth union member and previous generations who devoted their whole lives to the revolution, today's young generation vows to follow his example, determined to study and work to build the homeland and the country more and more beautiful. More than ever, the saying "The path of youth is only the revolutionary path, there can be no other path" further urges the youth to strive to study, practice, take the lead in the scientific and technological revolution, fight uncompromisingly against negative phenomena and social evils; believe in and be loyal to the revolutionary cause of the Party, the generation of Vietnamese youth follows the example of comrade Ly Tu Trong, vows to continue writing the brilliant golden history of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, of the heroic Vietnamese people, leading the country to rise up in the new era.
