(CTO) - On August 7, the Ministry of Transport coordinated with the People's Committee of Soc Trang province to organize a workshop on investment in Tran De Seaport. Deputy Minister of Transport Nguyen Xuan Sang, representatives of leaders of ministries, central agencies, leaders of provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta region, Military Region 9, institutes, associations, schools, businesses and investors attended the workshop.
According to Chairman of Soc Trang Provincial People's Committee Tran Van Lau, Resolution No. 13-NQ/TW dated April 2, 2022 of the Politburo and Resolution No. 78/NQ-CP dated June 18, 2022 of the Government on the direction of socio-economic development and ensuring national defense and security in the Mekong Delta region clearly define that by 2030, Tran De Port will be developed into a special port and regional gateway. The Prime Minister issued Decision No. 886/QD-TTg dated July 24, 2023 approving the Plan, policies, solutions and resources to implement the Master Plan for the development of Vietnam's seaport system. Identifying one of the tasks of developing maritime infrastructure is to call for investment in the Tran De - Soc Trang Port Area in the initial phase with a capital demand of VND 50,000 billion.
Chairman of the People's Committee of Soc Trang province Tran Van Lau affirmed: "Currently, more than 70% of the import and export goods of the Mekong Delta must be transported by road to the Ho Chi Minh City port cluster, increasing transportation costs, taking a lot of time, affecting the quality of goods and creating pressure on road traffic. Therefore, the formation of Tran De Seaport as a gateway port for the Mekong Delta region is a perfect piece, helping to synchronize the traffic infrastructure, directly promoting the socio-economic development of the region. Especially key infrastructure investment projects such as: Component Project 4 of the Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang Expressway Construction Investment Project Phase 1; East-West Economic Development Axis Project of Soc Trang province; Dai Ngai Bridge connecting Tra Vinh - Soc Trang provinces... synchronized with the Tran De Seaport system, it is expected to solve the long-standing "bottleneck" of the region".
At the workshop, delegates provided and exchanged information related to the planning and development orientation of Tran De Seaport as a gateway port in the Mekong Delta region; affirmed the significance and importance of the port in the socio-economic development of the region and discussed mechanisms and policies to attract investment in the Tran De Seaport Project in the coming time. Based on the proposed opinions, recommendations and solutions raised by delegates at the workshop, the People's Committee of Soc Trang province coordinated with the Ministry of Transport to absorb, study and integrate in the process of building a pre-feasibility study report for the Tran De Seaport Investment Project, and submit it to the Prime Minister for approval.
According to the People's Committee of Soc Trang province, the total planning area of Tran De seaport is 5,400 hectares, of which the planning area of offshore port is 1,400 hectares; the planning area of port logistics services, logistics, and onshore cargo transit port is 4,000 hectares.
