According to Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Van Hung: Each locality must have unique and typical products, development must be even, focusing on connectivity. Therefore, within the framework of Dien Bien National Tourism Year, the Workshop was organized as an opportunity to listen to the opinions of scientists and practitioners to make practical contributions to the tourism development of the whole country in general and Dien Bien in particular. Based on a correct assessment of the current status of Dien Bien tourism development in recent years to orient the sustainable development of Dien Bien tourism, clarify competitive advantages, uniqueness, and difference; apply science and technology to digital transformation in tourism development, improve service quality. Only then can Dien Bien tourism take off, repositioning Dien Bien on the tourism map of Vietnam and the world...
Proposing to evaluate and identify the potential, advantages, and unique products of Dien Bien to call for investment and develop tourism, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha suggested that managers, policy makers, and experts in the tourism industry discuss and focus on that direction. Delegates need to give opinions, propose orientations, solutions, and tasks for developing Dien Bien tourism that are key, creating breakthroughs. Along with that are strategic products to attract tourists. Going into the specifics of Dien Bien's potential, how to promote the value of those resources, create connections, find investors, and designers to create greater appeal. At the same time, how to promote the fastest and most effectively, take advantage of digital transformation, digital promotion, and a real and virtual promotion system so that the image of Dien Bien is widely spread domestically and internationally.
The Deputy Prime Minister noted that, with its mountainous characteristics, Dien Bien needs to think about development in parallel with conservation, associated with respect for natural values, friendliness and harmony. In particular, it is necessary to help ethnic minorities clearly understand the meaning and economic benefits of preserving and promoting cultural values, developing community tourism, so as to both preserve traditions and approach world civilization. This is a tourism model that should be prioritized, but there must be orientation and support to avoid distortion and exploitation...
Speaking at the workshop, Provincial Party Secretary Tran Quoc Cuong informed: “Dien Bien has many potentials and advantages, with the special national historical site of Dien Bien Phu Battlefield, a rich multi-ethnic culture, majestic scenery... In 2023, the province surpassed the 1 million tourist arrivals mark for the first time, an increase of nearly 25% over the same period last year. However, the results achieved are still very modest; the scale of tourism activities is still small. Dien Bien is looking forward to and hoping to hear comments, advice, suggestions, and recommendations from managers, experts, scientists, ... and especially the opinions, recommendations, and proposals of the Vietnam Tourism Association and the community of businesses and investors in the tourism sector. Thereby, Dien Bien will have more information and new ways of doing tourism, contributing to developing tourism into a spearhead economic sector of the province".
With the aim of listening to suggestions and comments for tourism exploitation and development, the Workshop attracted many discussions and exchanges with more than 80 quality presentations from managers, scientists and experts at the central and local levels. It clarified, analyzed deeply, and assessed closely and accurately the current status of tourism development in Dien Bien; influencing factors, opportunities and challenges; proposed directions, tasks and solutions such as promoting the exploitation of cultural and historical heritage treasures, building a cultural environment in traditional festivals, developing tourism products associated with natural values...
The national scientific conference "Dien Bien promotes its potential and advantages for sustainable tourism development" plays an important role in the series of events of the National Tourism Year - Dien Bien 2024. It is a highly specialized conference and provides orientation for tourism development for Dien Bien province in the coming period.
