Former Vietnamese Youth Volunteers meet to pay tribute to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Dien Bien Phu Victory

Comrade Truong Hoa Binh, former Politburo member, former Permanent Deputy Prime Minister, and Chairman of the Vietnam Veterans Association Vu Trong Kim presented commemorative medals to delegates and exemplary former veterans.

The program was attended by comrade Truong Hoa Binh, former member of the Politburo, former Permanent Deputy Prime Minister of the Government; leaders of the Vietnam Veterans Association; representatives of central departments and branches. On the side of Dien Bien province, there were comrade Le Thanh Do, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; Lo Van Mung, member of the Standing Committee, Head of the Provincial Party Committee's Mass Mobilization Commission, Chairman of the Provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee; Vu A Bang, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, representatives of provincial departments, branches and branches, and more than 200 cadres and members of the Vietnam Veterans Association nationwide.

During the meeting, delegates and former Youth Volunteers met and reviewed historical traditions. Mr. Vu Trong Kim, Chairman of the Vietnam Association of Former Youth Volunteers, recalled the milestones: In December 1953, the plan to launch the Dien Bien Phu Campaign was approved, the Youth Volunteers team named the XP Group was mobilized with 18,200 Youth Volunteers, organized into 40 companies to participate in the campaign. The first Youth Volunteers units secretly crossed the forest with the troops to the Northwest. To distract the enemy, some Youth Volunteers units marched to Viet Bac, while parts of Teams 34 and 40 worked with the engineering troops to clear 80km of the Tuan Giao - Dien Bien road; cleared rapids on the Da River, Ma River, and Nam Na River to transport by boat. Despite fierce enemy attacks, the Youth Volunteers bravely clung to the bridge and the road, ensuring smooth traffic flow...

Comrade Truong Hoa Binh, representing the sponsoring unit, presented support to the Provincial Association of Former Youth Volunteers and the Fund for the Poor of Dien Bien province.

At the end of the campaign, the Youth Volunteer Force repaired and expanded 3,300km of roads, destroyed thousands of time-exploding bombs, and ensured traffic at 60 ferry terminals... Together with laborers, they carried hundreds of thousands of tons of rice, food, medicine, and necessities to serve the campaign.

Chairman of the Vietnam Veterans Association Vu Trong Kim reviewed the Association's historical traditions, especially the Youth Volunteers force participating in the Dien Bien Phu Campaign.

Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Vu A Bang affirmed the important role of the Youth Volunteer Force; sent thanks to generations of former Youth Volunteers who contributed to the Dien Bien Phu Victory and the development of Dien Bien province. He briefed on the province's development situation and pledged that, with the tradition of "remembering the source of water when drinking water", Dien Bien province would continue to pay attention and implement policies for the youth volunteer force in the province. At the same time, he also hoped that former Youth Volunteers would continue to follow and support the development of Dien Bien province in the coming time.

At the program, former Youth Volunteers, historical witnesses who participated in the resistance war against French colonialism and the Dien Bien Phu campaign, participated in exchanges, discussions, and shared special memories and recollections when participating in the campaign.

Former Youth Volunteers participated in exchanges and conversations at the meeting.

On this occasion, the Vietnam Veterans Association awarded 55 Commemorative Medals to outstanding delegates and officials of the association. Former Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh represented the sponsoring unit to present 100 million VND to the Provincial Fund for the Poor and 100 million VND to the Dien Bien Provincial Veterans Association.
