9th Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians: Joining hands to create change

Digital transformation is one of the three main topics discussed at the upcoming 9th Global Young Parliamentarians Conference. Delegates attending the conference are young Vietnamese scientists and intellectuals who will share and recommend solutions to transform various fields in the digital revolution.

Universal digital connectivity

Digital transformation is a topic identified by ministries and sectors as a key and core task for integration. However, the deployment of new applications and digital platforms to accelerate the implementation of digital transformation tasks is still limited.

Talking to Tien Phong reporter on this topic, Dr. Le Thanh Long (born in 1988, University of Technology, Ho Chi Minh City National University) said that the Government needs to increase the popularization of digital connections, raise digital awareness, digital culture and digital skills for people. This goal aims to "leave no one behind" by covering the internet nationwide, including remote areas, border areas and islands with reasonable quality and cost. From there, there is a foundation to develop training and education programs on digital skills for all ages, from children to adults and the elderly.

“The government needs to strengthen support policies, invest in technology and treat technical staff well, creating an environment with many opportunities to attract young, dynamic, creative human resources with the ability to think digitally to solve social problems,” said Dr. Long.

According to Dr. Long, Vietnam needs to build a better security platform so that people and businesses can confidently use digital platforms effectively without fear of personal or organizational information being leaked or illegally disclosed. When institutions and policies are correct, it will increase the effectiveness of digital transformation implementation, helping to save time and effort.

Support for completing digital tools

According to Dr. Le Thi Phuong (born in 1988, Ho Chi Minh City Institute of Applied Materials Science), not only scientific researchers, but all individuals and organizations in society can be advanced units in the digital transformation process.

However, the young female delegate emphasized the role of scientific researchers in perfecting digital tools. Young intellectuals need to support management agencies in researching and creating convenient and safe software and tools, and updating, editing, and supplementing increasingly perfect digital tools.

"When digital transformation tools are put into practical use, intellectuals and scientists have the responsibility to be pioneers, set an example for the people around them, and promote the process to take place smoothly and quickly," said Dr. Phuong.

Particularly in the field of new biomedical materials, digital tools have been and are being comprehensively applied to support the creation of domestic products serving Vietnamese healthcare. Notable examples include 3D material printing technology and molecular simulation technology applied to drug structure design.

From research practice, Dr. Phuong realized that, for traditional methods, it is necessary to develop a plan, conduct practical testing, collect results, analyze results and repeat many times, costing a lot of money to be able to draw out the optimal process.

Today, modern simulation technology allows the discovery of new, high-quality molecules faster, at lower cost, and with greater capacity than traditional experimental methods. From the initial input data, modern technology platforms can return simulation predictions, assessing the main properties of the target molecule based on complex physical calculations, with the same accuracy as the experimental molecule. Analytical data are managed, can be widely shared, and continue to contribute to the common knowledge base.

Young scientists and intellectuals are the core to help accelerate the digital transformation process.

“From the above practical evidence, I would like to affirm the importance of perfecting digital tools. Accordingly, individuals and organizations need to make efforts and be proactive in consulting, boldly proposing new ideas or detecting errors in tools to upgrade and perfect together,” said the young female delegate.

Nurturing "digital core" from grassroots units

In order for digital transformation in the medical field to be highly effective, Associate Professor, Dr. Dao Viet Hang (born in 1987, Hanoi Medical University Hospital) said that there should be specific policies focusing on two issues: Improving and nurturing "digital core" which are young doctors and nurses from grassroots units and perfecting documents guiding the application of equipment and technology integrating AI in the medical field, to create a corridor for building technical processes and corresponding prices.

"When digital transformation tools are put into practical use, intellectuals and scientific researchers have the task of pioneering, setting an example for the people around them, promoting the process to take place smoothly and quickly." Specifically, for young doctors, there will be a need for more forums and activities to introduce and facilitate doctors to understand the role, benefits, difficulties and solutions when implementing digital transformation activities in the medical field. When having enough necessary skills and understanding the essential role of the digital transformation trend, these are the core to create change right from the grassroots units.

According to Associate Professor, Dr. Hang, digital transformation activities should be linked with 5S quality improvement activities at medical units and scientific research activities, making digital transformation a priority development program of associations and young doctors' clubs in the locality.

"The more specific the implementation activities are, the more opportunities young doctors will have to approach, learn and form a network to support each other in terms of expertise, skills as well as in training," Associate Professor, Dr. Hang said.

In addition, nurturing “digital core” is also one of the orientations and goals of the Global Network of Young Vietnamese Intellectuals in the coming time, with interdisciplinary research activities, creating diversity and new connections in ideas, creating strong, specialized research groups, and developing support for potential projects. This activity will promote the dynamic and enthusiastic spirit of young intellectuals in digital transformation activities in various fields to “transform” together with many meaningful and practical achievements.
