Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Thanh Lam said that, facing the global problem of the mainstream press and media, Vietnam is facing great competition from new media methods, as well as a complete change in information viewing habits and a new generation of information consumers.
A common problem in countries that do not own or control their own social media platforms is that they are generally governed by technological algorithms, management methods, and operations, and this transition brings with it many economic challenges.
This is an opportunity for countries attending the Conference to share experiences, propose initiatives and reach a consensus on a common action plan to respond to regional challenges; affirming the indispensable role and more important mission than ever of mainstream media.

“ASEAN has many advantages as well as solidarity in a bloc, good practices allow us to have faith that we will find solutions, solutions that come from solving the digital transformation problem well; mainstream media as well as the media leading and orienting information on cyberspace; business models. To do that, we must sit down and discuss solutions to handle fake news, false news; control as well as limit the negative impacts of new technologies introduced into the information field,” said Mr. Lam.
At the conferences, Vietnam plans to propose building a coordination mechanism in the field of press and media information, especially in handling fake news - false news on the internet. The coordination mechanism does not stop at policies and sanctions for state agencies but also helps people to be aware of fake news - false news.
