Many localities add 1-2 priority points or consider direct admission to public grade 10 for candidates with IELTS from 4.0 and equivalent.

The People's Committee of Tuyen Quang province approved the 10th grade enrollment plan this year at the end of January, organizing entrance exams with three subjects: Math, Literature and English.

Candidates with an IELTS certificate of 5.0 or higher will be admitted directly. Specifically, if they have an IELTS of 5.0 or equivalent, they will be admitted directly to a non-specialized public high school.

For the Ethnic Boarding School and the English Specialized Class at Tuyen Quang Specialized High School, the requirements are 6.0 and 7.0 IELTS respectively. If the candidate only achieves 5.0, he/she will be awarded 1-2 points, depending on the school.

Meanwhile, Lao Cai exempts the exam and gives 10 points for English subject to enter public grade 10 for candidates with IELTS from 4.0 or higher.

If you register for a specialized class and achieve IELTS 5.5-6.5, you will convert your certificate score to specialized subject score according to the formula: IELTS score * 10/7. If you achieve IELTS 7.0 or higher, you will be awarded 10 specialized points.

Many other provinces exempt and convert English scores for candidates with IELTS certificates.

In Quang Tri , if the candidate achieves 4.0 IELTS or higher, the score will be converted to 9 points in this subject in the entrance exam to public grade 10, applicable to both specialized and non-specialized schools. The conversion threshold for 4.5 and 5.0 IELTS is 9.5 and 10 points.

This is the third consecutive year that Quang Tri has exempted English proficiency tests for students with IELTS. Two years ago, the province applied this admission method, but with a higher bonus score: If a candidate achieves 4.0 IELTS, they will be converted to 10 points.

Binh Duong is similar. If the certificate is from 4.0 to 5.0 IELTS, the candidate will be awarded 1 point. Above 5.0 IELTS, they will be given 10 points for English and exempted from the exam. The conversion threshold for other certificates is as follows:

International language certificates, especially IELTS, have been popular in admissions from high school to university in recent years.

Nghe An is the first locality to directly admit IELTS candidates to grade 10, starting in 2021. Last year, to be admitted to Phan Boi Chau Specialized School in this province, candidates had to achieve a minimum of 7.0, while other schools had a range of 6.0-6.5. Phu Tho also recruits directly, but only applies to mainstream schools, with a requirement of 6.5 IELTS or higher. These two provinces have not announced their grade 10 admission plans this year.
