Asia

Xinhua News Agency. China and Uzbekistan have upgraded their relations to an all-around comprehensive strategic partnership, following talks between President Xi Jinping and President Shavkat Mirziyoyev in Beijing.

CCTV. China and the island nation of Nauru held a ceremony to restore bilateral diplomatic relations in Beijing on January 24.

CHINA DAILY. Rescue efforts are underway after at least 39 people died in a store fire in Xinyu City, Jiangxi Province in eastern China on the afternoon of January 24.

MEO. Iraq protests US airstrikes on military positions in the country, considering this a violation of the Southwest Asian nation's territorial sovereignty.

WSJ. The Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas has said it is ready for a potential deal with Israel to release women and children being held hostage in the Gaza Strip, according to Egyptian officials.

CNA. Sri Lanka has passed a bill that would impose harsh prison sentences on those who use social media to post information that the government deems false or a threat to national security.

BANGKOK POST. Visiting Thailand from January 24-26, German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier will hold talks with Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin today, focusing on trade, investment, climate change and vocational education.

Europe

ANADOLU. The Turkish parliament has passed a long-delayed bill related to Sweden's bid to become NATO's 32nd member.

REUTERS. Sharing on social network X after a phone call with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban reaffirmed his support for admitting Sweden as a member of NATO.

EU OBSERVE. EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell and Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry chair the 10th meeting of the EU-Egypt Association Council in Brussels, Belgium.

EURO NEWS. The EU has officially launched the European Ports Alliance to unify measures to combat drugs and the infiltration of criminal groups.

REUTERS. Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said he had received assurances from his Slovak counterpart Robert Fico that the country would support Kiev's aspirations to join the EU.

TASS. Denmark has decided to allocate 91 million kroner ($13.26 million) to strengthen the cybersecurity of the Armed Forces and the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.

AFP. Moldovan Foreign Minister Nicu Popescu announced his resignation, saying he had achieved his goal of helping the country move towards EU membership.

MEO. Cyprus authorities announced that they had rescued 60 migrants from a small boat off the coast of the country, all of whom were taken to hospital, including four who were unconscious.

America

PMO. Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong will pay a working visit to New York City, USA from January 24-27, and is expected to meet with California Governor Gavin Newsom and leaders of famous US companies such as Google, Alphabet, Apple...

CNN. About 6,000 volunteers from the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (USA) participated in a campaign to count the number of people living on the streets, as well as their basic needs.

AP. Former President Donald Trump won the New Hampshire primary to select the Republican candidate to enter the race for the White House.

CNN. The US military announced that its forces destroyed two anti-ship missiles of Houthi forces in Yemen.

NBC NEWS. The Los Angeles Times (USA) announced that it would cut at least 115 positions in its news department, equivalent to more than 20% of its reporters and editors.

RIO NEWS. Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva spoke by phone with his Ecuadorian counterpart Daniel Noboa about the rising violence, as well as the fight against organized crime and drug trafficking in Ecuador.

TN. Argentina's national airline Aerolineas Argentinas has canceled nearly 270 flights , as its employees participate in a general strike called by the General Confederation of Labor.

IMF. Real estate prices in Mexico in 2023 increased by 4.72% compared to the period before the Covid-19 pandemic, ranking second in the world in terms of real estate price growth rate, only after the UAE with an increase of 10.39%.

AP. Bolivian Health Minister María Renée Castro has made it mandatory for education staff and all students to wear masks while at school, amid the Covid-19 outbreak .

Africa

NAP. In Côte d'Ivoire - the second destination in a four-nation African tour, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced that Washington will provide an additional $45 million to help strengthen security in the West African region.

WHO. The World Health Organization (WHO) will work with the Somali government to develop a response plan to the cholera outbreak in the country, as the death rate from the disease exceeds the emergency threshold.

REUTERS. Gauteng police in South Africa have arrested a man believed to be responsible for a fire that killed 76 people in Johannesburg in August 2023.

ABS. The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) will partner with technology consultancy Slalom Australia to deliver key digital services for the 2026 census .

BBC. The island nation of Palau has made history by becoming the first country to ratify the High Seas Treaty - a landmark UN agreement to protect the world's oceans.

AFP. The World Tourism Organization announced a name change to the United Nations Tourism Organization ( UN Tourism ) to clarify that this is a UN organization, the new logo features a moving person with the slogan "Bringing the world closer together".
