The world is witnessing the strong rise of the Global South, with developing countries playing an increasingly important role in economics, politics and international cooperation. Southern cooperation is not simply an option, but has become an urgent need to protect common interests and promote sustainable development. Platform for academic and practical dialogue
The presentations and sharing of opinions by delegates at the Workshop contributed to clarifying the core issues of the Workshop, from assessing the impact of geopolitical and economic fluctuations on the development of Southern countries, reviewing the contributions and lessons learned from the cooperative relationship between Vietnam and India, analyzing the advantages as well as obstacles that need to be overcome to promote sustainable cooperation and proposing initiatives and strategies to strengthen the partnership between the two countries in the future.
Delegates agreed that cooperation between countries in the Southern Hemisphere in the context of today's profound changes in the world is not only a need, but also an inevitable trend. Building a fair trade and financial system, promoting technology transfer and enhancing innovation will help developing countries improve their position in the world economy and together build a fairer economic and trade system where all countries can develop sustainably, independently and self-reliantly.
Vietnam and India, two dynamic and influential economies in the region, can and should play a pivotal role in this process. Vietnam, with its policy of deep integration, plays the role of a bridge between ASEAN and major economies. Meanwhile, India, with its strong economic and technological potential, can contribute to the digital transformation and sustainable development of countries in the region.
Cooperation between Vietnam and India will not only help the two countries better exploit development opportunities, but also contribute to creating a more multipolar, balanced and equitable world. Sharing knowledge, transferring technology and jointly building new economic initiatives will help the Southern countries strengthen their position in the international arena.
According to Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Xuan Trung - Director of the Institute of South Asian, West Asian and African Studies, Vietnam and India are both countries with impressive economic growth rates and share interests in promoting a multipolar, balanced and sustainable world. Both countries have important strategic positions in the Indo-Pacific region, which is becoming the center of global trade and technology flows. Both have multilateral foreign policies and are committed to supporting South-South cooperation, which helps strengthen the negotiating power of developing countries in international organizations such as the WTO, G20, United Nations and BRICS. With their strengths and commitments to cooperation, Vietnam and India need to turn today's commitments into practical actions, create stronger connections, and make more practical contributions to the common development of the region and the world. |
With that meaning, the Workshop is taking place at the headquarters of the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences (No. 1 Lieu Giai, Hanoi) to create a platform for academic and practical dialogue between policy makers, experts, scholars and practitioners of the two countries, thereby exchanging views, sharing experiences, proposing feasible solutions to improve the effectiveness of bilateral cooperation in an in-depth and substantive direction, contributing to the common development of Southern Hemisphere cooperation, towards a stable and prosperous regional and international order.
The results of the Workshop contributed to promoting mutual understanding, improving the quality of consultation and policy making of research agencies, strategic organizations, experts and scholars of the two countries, thereby deepening the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Vietnam and India.
