Vinamilk prioritizes supporting nutritional products for students
The storm and flood have passed but left behind heavy damage to the people. In many localities, the work of overcoming the consequences of the storm and flood, helping people stabilize their lives is being urgently carried out, many resources have been mobilized.
: Yagi is the strongest storm in the East Sea in the past 30 years and the strongest in mainland Vietnam in the past 70 years. The storm is very strong, very fast, has a wide range, the area near the center of the storm is level 14, gusts level 17, lasts a long time, has great destruction and heavily affects most of the North. After the storm, many localities are still recovering from the damage. Houses, furniture, appliances, and goods were all damaged. People have been cleaning for over a week and “still haven’t finished.”
Joining hands with the call of the Government and people nationwide, more than 550,000 nutritional products (worth nearly 3 billion VND) have been supported by Vinamilk to people in 11 provinces and cities affected by storms and floods, including: Hanoi, Yen Bai, Thai Nguyen, Son La, Cao Bang, Hung Yen, Vinh Phuc, Tuyen Quang, Bac Ninh, Ninh Binh, Lao Cai.
The storm hit right at the beginning of the new school year. Nearly a week after the storm and flood passed, teachers and students at Kim Dong Primary School (Minh Tan Ward, Yen Bai City, Yen Bai Province) were able to return to class. Traces of floodwaters were still visible on the school walls. The school was flooded nearly 3 meters deep, up to the first floor.
Books and school supplies were soaked in floodwaters and left to dry in the schoolyard in the past few days after the water receded. Ms. Do Thi Diem Huong (teacher at Kim Dong Primary School) said: “Kim Dong Primary School suffered quite heavy damage after the storm and flood. The school has nearly 1,000 students, and more than 50% of the students’ families suffered losses, losing all their property due to the floodwaters. All teaching aids and equipment in the school were also damaged and unusable.”
Vinamilk prioritizes supporting nutritional products for students. Following this, the company is also implementing the program "Overcoming natural disasters - Stepping forward to the future" with the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union. It is expected that an additional 3 billion VND worth of nutritional products will be supported by the community and Vinamilk staff; and an additional 3 billion VND of products will be contributed by Vinamilk. All will continue to be given to children and students in difficult circumstances in the provinces affected by storms and floods.
The central market area of Tran Yen district (Yen Bai province) was flooded up to nearly 2m, with more than 1m of mud and trash. “Every day, hundreds of people had to clean up, sweep, and pull out the mud. Working continuously for 6-7 days, the road was like this, in some places the mud was still 20-30cm high,” said Ms. Nguyen Thi Loan (living on Song Thao street, Tran Yen district) pointing to the road around the market. Ms. Loan added: “In my whole life, I have never seen such a big flood, as deep as this one. Near the river, inside there are 2 houses with only old people over 70 years old and over 80 years old living alone. That day, the house was flooded up to the 2nd floor, they couldn’t get out, they waved their hands to call for help.”
In Tran Yen district, Yen Bai city, Yen Bai province, people, volunteer forces and officers and soldiers of Battalion 5, Regiment 148, Division 316, Military Region 2, have been working hard to overcome the consequences of storms and floods for many days.
Vinamilk brings milk and drinking water to people and forces on duty to overcome the consequences of storms and floods.
“Only when we go to the places affected by the storm and flood can we feel the severe devastation of natural disasters and the loss of people. But even in such difficult circumstances, we can see the warmth of human love. Participating in supporting people in the storm and flood areas, my colleagues and I personally want to contribute more to the company's community activities,” said Mr. Ta Xuan Tuan, Northern Sales Director, Vinamilk.
Nguyen Ngoc Tuyen, a driver for the Hanoi Logistics Enterprise, Vinamilk, confided that he had made countless trips to support flooded areas in Hanoi, or to Thai Nguyen and Yen Bai. The truck leaves at 5am in the morning, returns to the warehouse late at night and continues unloading goods so that he can depart again the next morning. “Although it is more difficult than my usual work, I feel proud to contribute my efforts, helping the company to help our compatriots and carry out volunteer activities,” Tuyen said.
More than 3,500 gifts including milk, water, cakes... were prepared by Vinamilk employees in one day and delivered to people in Yen Bai and Thai Nguyen. Most of the households have elderly people and children who are in great need of health and nutrition during this period.
In addition, doctors and pharmacists of An Khang General Clinic (Vinamilk) in Ho Chi Minh City have also prepared 600 family medicine bags to send to people in northern provinces such as Ha Giang, Tuyen Quang... The medicine bags include basic necessary medicines, accompanied by specific and clear instructions for people to use.
