Hanoi Due to many injured players, coach Troussier had to call up Ho Tan Tai and Bui Tien Dung to the Vietnam team to prepare for the 2023 Asian Cup.
The Vietnam team gathered today, December 31, at the Vietnam VFF Youth Training Center. However, since December 28, center back Nguyen Thanh Chung and midfielder Hoang Van Toan have been examined for injuries, and were determined not to recover in time, so they missed the Asian Cup. In addition, many other players are also injured in the V-League but have not been examined, such as goalkeeper Dang Van Lam, defenders Que Ngoc Hai, Do Duy Manh, midfielder Nguyen Hoang Duc and striker Nguyen Tien Linh. After the whole team gathers, these people will be examined medically so that doctors can assess the extent of their injuries.
Therefore, Coach Troussier must immediately call up additional players to avoid the risk of a shortage of personnel before departure. After midfielder Pham Van Luan of Hanoi Police, this morning, December 31, the French coach continued to add Ho Tan Tai and Bui Tien Dung, increasing the team list to 38 players.

Ho Tan Tai played consistently and contributed greatly to CAHN's 2023 V-League championship, but he was not in the French coach's plans. He was absent in the most recent training sessions. The Binh Dinh player is good at playing right-back, often joining the attack and scoring many goals. However, when coach Gong Oh-kyun took charge of CAHN for four matches, Tan Tai was pulled into the central midfield. The versatility of this player may have made Mr. Troussier change his perspective and call up Tan Tai.
Bui Tien Dung was also not in the original plan of Coach Troussier, but was once again called up as a supplement. Previously, during the FIFA Days training session in October, when central defender Do Duy Manh was injured, Bui Tien Dung was called up to replace him. But now, the player of The Cong Viettel is also injured, so he also needs to be checked to see if he has a chance when he joins the training session today.
After gathering and training in Hanoi, Coach Troussier will eliminate some more players and then leave for Qatar from January 5 to train and get used to the climate and stadium of the host country. The team will play another friendly match against Kyrgyzstan on January 9, then eliminate more players to finalize the official list for the Asian Cup. At the tournament in Qatar, Vietnam is in Group D, facing Japan on January 14, Indonesia on January 19 and Iraq on January 24.
The 2023 Asian Cup will take place from January 12, 2024 to February 10, 2024 in Qatar. China was originally chosen as the host but withdrew due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. For this reason, the tournament was postponed to early 2024. The 24 teams will be divided into six groups, playing a round-robin tournament to select the six first-place teams, six second-place teams and four best third-place teams to advance to the round of 16.
