On the morning of August 27, U.23 Vietnam arrived at the airport to prepare for procedures to return to Vietnam. Coach Hoang Anh Tuan and his players are expected to arrive at Noi Bai International Airport (Hanoi) at 2:00 p.m. the same day, before returning to the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) to attend the ceremony to celebrate the title of champion of the 2023 Southeast Asian U.23 Championship.

Vietnam U.23 team defeated Indonesia U.23 team 6-5 in the final on penalties (0-0 draw in 120 minutes of official play) to step up to the podium to receive the trophy. This is the second Southeast Asian U.23 title in 2 consecutive years for Vietnam U.23 team.

In this tournament, U.23 Vietnam beat U.23 Laos 4-1, defeated U.23 Philippines 1-0, beat U.23 Malaysia 4-1 before defeating U.23 Indonesia in the final match.

Speaking after the match, coach Hoang Anh Tuan shared: “All the players have worked with me for a long time, at least one year, at most three years. So, I understand each player's strengths. In recent training sessions, we practiced 11m kicks a lot. The 11m kicking ability of U23 Vietnam is quite even. The main problem is that I understand the players' kicking ability well to arrange the players to kick. We anticipated that the match could extend to a penalty shootout. The match progressed as we predicted. I am very happy."

Coach Hoang Anh Tuan shared: "I am very happy because this is the first time at the national team level, I have a championship title. In addition, VFF has oriented to use and create opportunities for young players, so I feel happy when the players mature very quickly. There are 17, 18, 19 year old players playing a lot, I am very happy. U.23 Vietnam won the championship with a young force, younger than other teams. I think U.23 Vietnam is the youngest team in the tournament"
