Speaking to Thanh Nien on the morning of October 26, Mr. Do Cong Duc, Principal of Dai Dong Secondary School (Thach That District, Hanoi), said that the health of Vu Van Tuan K. (a 7th grader who was beaten by his friends) has not improved much. He and the teachers still regularly visit K's house to inquire about his health.

Principal admits responsibility

According to Mr. Duc, after learning the information, the school held a meeting with all the families to discuss solutions. "We were very upset when the incident happened. Now the school is also trying to get the families whose children participated in the beating to cooperate to share and stabilize K's psychology," Mr. Duc said and revealed that in addition to overcoming the consequences, the school will apply measures to educate other students so that this situation does not happen again.

Mr. Duc added that K. is small, gentle, shy, not really agile and active like his peers, so he is often teased and bullied by his friends. K. was beaten by a group of 8 friends in June, during the summer vacation. The clip of K. being beaten appeared online at the Dong Cau village cultural house, Dai Dong commune (Thach That district, Hanoi). There was also another time K. was beaten on the street.

K. sat down when he was attacked by his friends.

When asked who would be responsible for such consequences, "This is a serious incident, beyond the school's control, so upon receiving the information, I reported it to the local authorities and invited the police to intervene," Mr. Duc frankly admitted.

"We have to face reality and find a solution together. Whether K. was beaten by friends inside or outside school, he is our student, so I, the teachers and the parents involved must take responsibility for not managing our students well," Mr. Duc affirmed.

The medical examination results showed that K. had dissociative disorder.

Sharing the immediate solution, Mr. Duc revealed that the families agreed to send K. to psychological treatment, and that they would share the responsibility for the cost. However, there was a psychological treatment center that offered to provide free treatment for the child, so the families proposed that they would support K. with transportation, food, accommodation, and health care.

Assaulted a friend due to conflict

According to the group of students who beat K., the whole group played with K., however, due to conflicts, they all beat K. from summer break until the new school year.

The first person to hit K., Kieu An D., a 7th grade student at Dai Dong Secondary School, said that one time the group went out, because K. hit D.'s younger brother, D. hit K. to avenge him.

Seeing D. hit K., the whole group also jumped in to attack, causing K. to hold his body in pain.

"I learned karate so I used moves from this martial art to kick my friend. After the first beating, because I hated K. so much, the next times the group would beat K. up whenever they saw him," D. said.

After the incident was discovered, D. said that he and his friends went to K.'s house to apologize, however, at that time K. was in the hospital for treatment.

"We are very regretful and know our actions were wrong, so we are very scared now. When I hit K., I did not think that my actions would cause such a mistake and affect his future," D. continued.

Meanwhile, Khuat Duy P., a male student in the same class as the victim, said that he had assaulted K. 3 times, and all 3 times K. did not fight back but stood still and took the beating.

"The first time was in 6th grade, K. went fishing with me in the pond, then he knocked over the bucket with the fish, the water in the bucket wet my shirt so we argued, then I hit K. The second time was during summer vacation, I heard my classmate D. say K. cursed my dad so I went to find K. and beat him. The third time K. poured rocks and cement on me so I hit K. out of anger," P. said.

Like D. and P., the other students were very remorseful when they realized what had happened. The group promised to study hard and not repeat the offense.
